Any Lib care to explain why he deserves this special treatment? I would like to know maybe I'm missing something?
Is this an example of how we get out of debt? When you don't have money at home do you go out and spend tons more? Nope. Unless someone else foots the bill.
Hmmmm sounds like the tax payers are already getting the raw end of the deal and it's his first day. GO BARRY!:D Lead by example!:D
Re: 1-20-09 Anyone taking the day off?
It has been a day...
I'll admit that I stopped at work, walked out of my office to the bull pen (sales room) and watched Biden and Obama take their oaths and listened to the speeches.
My question is WHERE did the extra cost of this inauguration come from? Was it security costs for the enormous crowd? What made this one so much more expensive? Was freaking Aretha that expensive to book? (I mean, Snoop Dogg would have sang the Star Spangled Banner for half of what Aretha charged...could have probably just paid him in weed...and did anybody find it ironic that the festivities began with a fat lady singing? LMAO)
I get that this is a "momumental day" in the eyes of many Americans...I agree that it's pretty monumental to swear in the first African American Prez, even though I voted for the other camp, but I just can't see spending $150 million on a day of pomp-and-circumstance. Of course, I also can't see spending a bunch of money on a wedding either, but I know many feel differently on that one. (Stacy and me spent about $1000 on ours, which included the cost of the license, renting a tux and a dress, and buying pictures. lol)
What would have impressed me would have been for BO to say "Aint no sense in spending a bunch of coin on me...have that honkey swear me in on the way over in the car and let's take this $150 million and feed a bucketload of hungry Americans or something. Fo Shizzle."
What happened to all that share the wealth crap?
Ah well, water under the bridge...he's finishing up the Obama-Ball by now, or whatever it is. All jokes aside, I sure hope hollywood can fix this country. I'll give him a chance, and I'll stand a salute if he can.

Brian I want to fish with you sometime so you can make me laugh all day. I loved this post and I feel exactly the same way. Three times the cost to the American tax payer as any President before him and this is his new change. Absolutely and udderly ridiculous what was spent on this Circus. Here it is Lib's, you wanted change you got it and this is only the low end beginning to this Cherade. GOOD POST BRIAN!

$1000 for a wedding? Waay too much but it will buy a real purty handgun!:):D
Re: 1-20-09 Anyone taking the day off?
If you are going to talk about costs, at least do it fairly and compare apples to apples. The costs reported for Bush do NOT include the securety while the costs reported for Obama do. Couple sources to check out:
http://mediamatters.org/items/200901190004
Summary: Leading up to President-elect Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony, several media outlets have advanced the claim that Obama's inauguration will cost significantly more than President Bush's 2005 inauguration. Citing "estimates" ranging from $150 million to $170 million in total costs for Obama's inaugural events, the outlets have compared the purported total costs in 2009 to the approximately $42 million in private funds spent on Bush's 2005 inauguration. However, these outlets omit the additional costs of security, transportation, and other expenses incurred by federal, state, and local governments in conjunction with the events in 2005 while including them in the projections for the 2009 events.
"when the costs incurred by the federal government and the District of Columbia are factored in, the total cost of Bush's 2005 inauguration was reportedly around $157 million. The Washington Post reported in January 2005 that the cost of Bush's second inauguration, which the Post reported to be $40 million, "does not include the cost of a web of security, including everything from 7,000 troops to volunteer police officers from far away, to some of the most sophisticated detection and protection equipment." Further, The New York Times reported on January 5 that in 2005, "the federal government and the District of Columbia spent a combined $115.5 million, most of it for security, the swearing-in ceremony, cleanup and for a holiday for federal workers."
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2009_01/016501.php
"In other words, it's the unsubstantiated Obama cost of $160 million (inauguration + security) compared with the Bush cost of 42 million (inauguration, excluding security). Those are two completely different calculations being compared side-by-side, by Fox & Friends, among others, to support the phony claim that Obama's inauguration is $100 million more expensive than Bush's."
So, how much did Bush's 2005 inauguration actually cost, using the standard the media is applying to Obama? Boehlert crunched the numbers and came up with a total of $157 million.
And yes, that is still waaay to much to be spending on this.

Re: 1-20-09 Anyone taking the day off?
Interesting links Andrew...thanks for those. I guess the bill for 25,000 police officers does add up. Who'd a thunk it? I still think that a bubble car like the Pope rides in would have been a whole lot cheaper for the security detail. Make it asteroid proof, give it a PA system, tell him never to get out of it, and let it ride. "Obama-mobile" is a kinda catchy name at least. :D But instead, we spend a gazallion dollars on a new Presidential limo that could survive being shot out of a missle silo to the center of the sun through clouds of ricin gas...and then he walks in front of it down Pennsylvania Ave. At least it's a hybrid.
Maybe Obama aint so bad after all.
Everybody together now:
"OOOOOObama you so fine, you so fine you blow my mind - OBAMA. O-O-OBAMA, woooo!"
Re: 1-20-09 Anyone taking the day off?

Re: 1-20-09 Anyone taking the day off?

Does that include the cost of designer clothes for Michelle and "one of a kind" designer coats for the girls? I also noticed the girls had new 'dos'. Has anybody seen how big Michelle's feet are? It probably costs double just to get custom made shoes for her. I knew I could help locate part of that money.
