Re: How do you dismantle a bird's nest?
I was thinking of some of the ways one may get a bird nest in a baitcaster.
1. Hanging your lure in your girlfriend's wig.
2. Day dreaming about the blonde in the tackle store.
3. Just as you cast, your fishing buddy screams "Fish On!"
4. Hanging and casting your chiwawa out of the boat.

5. Seeing a huge school of fish jumping right in front of you and thinking, "whatever you do, don't backlash".
Re: How do you dismantle a bird's nest?
Sometimes if it's really bad I'll take the side plate off, remove the spool, and start pulling the buried loops off to the side. Eventually you'll get to the bad spot. Re-insert spool and go on. I don't have to do this very often.
Do look for nicks in the line though - happens a lot.

Good thread. Lot's good information. Think this old dog just learned a new trick or two.
Re: How do you dismantle a bird's nest?
If spooled with 20 pound test, and a backlash occurs, its a birds nest.....right.
If you have 50 pound test on, does that make it an Eagle's nest?
