I know some other teachers in the system.....some are for it, some are against it.

Finally......My take on it is this.........Yea, other presidents have done it....BUT, this president is SO FAR out of TOUCH that it SCARES me.

Totally didn't mean to hang labels. I just think that the extreme hatred of our president to the point that you would not let your children listen to the leader of this country speak - goes against everything our politcal system stands for (so I do see it as borderline Unamerican, and Unpatriotic). Disagree with my views all you want, disagree with the president views all you want. Teach your children your views all you want - that is totally understandable. But to not allow your child to see the president speak because you don't agree with him is not teaching the right message about our political system.

Geo - I will discuss it next week. Whichever way it goes - I don't think our opinion will vary as much as you think. (I hope not, at least). I don't want to see a politically/agenda driven speech to students any more than you do.

Exactly! This is something that's been bugging me about this board lately, seeing people using epithets like this, and then expecting the people they're talking about to respond respectfully. Or maybe they don't expect that, and what they're trying to do is provoke someone, I don't now. But you may as well walk up to someone on the street and say, "Hey Stupid, how ya doing?" and expect to get a handshake in response. You verified my point. Thanks. One your a teacher and a liberal democrat. Two you obviously feel obligated or unrestricted to enject your opinion upon your students on whatever subject is being discussed. This would be fine if they were in a class called political theory. And unless the students signed up to attend that class I don't feel you should be doing so regardless of political affiliation. And as you refer to 'sheltering them from any and all opinions other than my own is aiding that" well if I am present to give them another point of view then it wouldn't be a problem, but in a classroom there aren't any other adults present to do so. Yes I shelter them from what I deem to be bad influences as I am the parent. And I make that determination. Thats why they don't watch porn, rated movies, read materials I don't think is appropriate, stay out past dark or go anywhere that I don't approve of etc... They don't hang around with terrorist or communist, drug dealers, they don't go to a church where the pastor puts down white people or other races, and the United States, they won't be able to use the "I didn't know" excuse to hide or justify such affiliations.
Like I said if it was about staying of drugs, applying yourself in school or being patriotic then I wouldn't object. But to attempt to enlist them into some activist activity for whatever reason is wrong. And I see too much of an opportunity for this to take place.
This is america and I will support the president but not blindly support him. I support other adults in my community as well but if you think I will let my two daughters stay in a room behind closed doors with any adult without me being present your gravely mistaken. And I don't care who they are. Not even my best friend would be doing so. Does this make me paranoid? Mine and every other americans number one patriotic duty is to defend the constitution. And when I feel the two collide the constitution will get my allegiance thus the term to defend against all enemies foreign and domestic. And I am a veteran and a former police officer and have fought for my country against foreign enemies as well as domestic ones. So after I voice my opinion I am being unamerican, unpatriotic, an anarchist? Well I have fought for my right to say what I believe and for everyone else to do so as well ....now that's ironic.

Will our president teach the kids the way Hitler did with his wonderful youth movement? Will he teach them how to say Seig Hiel and all of the good things that go along with socialism and communism? Just curious.

I've never "enjected" my opinion on anyone - (I don't think so - I don't really know what that means) Did you read my post - I never talk politics in the classroom. However, after working in all grade levels, some of you are starting to remind me of my kids in my elementary days on the playground. "If I don't get to be pitcher, I'm not playing." I know it sounds funny, but many of you seem to be echoing that. My guy didn't win, so I want no part of this system.

I have had some disagreements on this board plenty of times, but I still like almost everyone on here - no matter how much we disagree - this is a debate right - it would be boring if we all agreed.

HOWEVER, attacking my professionallism is uncalled for and ticks me off to no end. There is no excuse for that, other than you have nothing substantial to say.

Well cry me a river about your "professionalism". Expect more of the same if you attack my Patriotism or my dedication to this country again. Which you have done and that does more than "Tick me off."
