Re: How to stay warm??
I have heard of old timers putting a metal 5 gallon bucket with sand about 3 or 4 inches in the bottom and placing a camping light into it (the kind that takes white fuel), or you could try the rubbing alcohol heater in the bucket (you can look on youtube under emergency car heater)

Re: How to stay warm??
Best advice! DONT GET OLD. with age comes wisdom, if its that bad outside, stay indoors.Or do what we used to do a while back, pack the trailer, stop your mail, after thanksgiving leave for the gulf coast, come back in early april. I used to fish the st joe and betsy rivers in mich. for steelies, you cant wear a snow mobile suit and waders, you jist cowboy up, break off the snot, and keep fishin. Got spoiled by my cousin who lived in the upper peninsula, Ice fishing shanty, heater, snow mobile, gas auger, and lots of action.now its a good union suit, wool sweater, good insulated HOODED jacket, mittens with finger cut outs, but if its that lousy, why bother. Also with age came retirement, can always wait for a break in the weather.

Re: How to stay warm??
For warming hands you can throw a can of sterno in a coffee can. It will work for 2-3 hours ! And I find that the neopreme gloves work much better if you can put them on , and get your hands so warm that they start to sweat ! Then your hands will stay warm until you take them off. Use like a small propane heater. Be careful, they will melt !!! Do not ask me how I know ! And The doctor gloves do work ! I have had sweat beads get between my fingers. While wearing them under say good leather insulated gloves. Without the use of a heater !!! A lot of people wear them as glove liners while Skiing.
I just got a down filled lightweight snow mobile suit. Have not tried it yet. But it will do better than the heavy Carhartts that I wear at work. They get too heavy !!!
Heres a trick for the face. Get a good toboggan, and cut the bottom out of it. And put it on with the hole you cut down on your neck. Pull it up over your nose and mouth for warmth. And might have to rotate occasionally, Due to condensation ! That under my Fur Elmer Fudd cap , And I am ready for the cold.

I have heard of this with some smoldering coal on the sand. Kind of risky, but I bet it is warm.
