Re: Fishing Superstitions
Sticks floating vertically in the water-fish aren't biting.
(don't know where that one come from, but I've heard it).
Cows laying and fish not biting-I've heard that one a lot.
Wind out of the north they don't bite.
(I think that one is definetly true)
Re: Fishing Superstitions
The bananna deal is real. I fished a tourney at Herrington without a bite the whole day until i ate the damned bananna, and then caught one about 3 minutes later. No banannas in my boat now!
Wouldn't the banana still be in the boat if you ate it ? Just in a different location. Food for thought.
Re: Fishing Superstitions
i always make my first cast away from my target area, so as not to catch one on the first cast.
Re: Fishing Superstitions
I ALWAYS take bananas on my boat. (I hate pirates) I always listen to Willie Nelson on my way to the lake or while I'm catching bait. Can't catch w/o Willie!
Re: Fishing Superstitions
Nothing better for me than catching one on the first cast.........Sort of tells me Im on'em.
Re: Fishing Superstitions
I didnt think I was superstisious at all until I realized I would change hats because I didnt do well wearing my other hat.
Re: Fishing Superstitions
No one in my boat gets a dip or chew of tobacco until the first fish is landed. (This one actually does work for a few minutes because it's all business until we get off the goose egg.)
Jeez, you make it tough on a chew addict. If I ever fish with you I will stand on the bank and chew my Redman and let you go catch one and then come back and pick me up lol!
Re: Fishing Superstitions
NO Bananas
I must wear certain hats, only the chosen ones will do
If all the Cows are laying down in the fields on the way to the lake it's gonna be a bad day.
And last but certainly not least, never ever never catch a fish on the first cast.
mHall, I feel the same way about the hats. LOL! Also, I never mix alcohol and H20. The banana and first cast also hold true with me.....
Re: Fishing Superstitions
Cows laying down fish aint biting
I've heard this all my life. One day I was heading to the lake with my brother-in-law, a farmer and fisherman. I asked, "Hey, what does it mean when the cows are laying down like that"?
He answered, "They're tired."
Re: Fishing Superstitions
When we'd bluegill or crappie fish and my Dad was outcatching me 4-1, he'd always say, "You're not holding your mouth right." I bet he got a kick out of watching me contorting my face all around while I watched my bobber.
Re: Fishing Superstitions
Another vote for cows laying in the field. Also, if the birds are lined up on the utility line, might as well head back on home.
Re: Fishing Superstitions
Man, this is some funny stuff here now.
Every post I read I would find myself looking back on the days I did bad and try to remember if the cows were laying in the field or, If the old lady snuck a bannana in the lunch bag. The Bannana one is the best one:D:D:D LOL!!!
I have carried around my son's first cloth baby shoes(Small Socks) in my pocket on tournaments and seemed to help some. Coincidence:confused: don't know.
My wife misplaced them and wasn't able to find them again. And seemed to go down hill some after that until i just forgot about it.
But, anything that makes you feel better mentally and puts you in the right state of mind, will improve your day on the lake no doubt. It's a mental thing IMO.
Great stuff though, keep it going!!!!
