:pSent you a 10 page brief on the legal aspects of this BS. But as always, I managed to delete it before saving/sending. Not to worry.
Bottom line, this guy is BS, yes BS. Send me a private message with your phone number if you want to discuss. I'm a Street Lawyer with a degree in Patent Law :D. Had to get it after working in Technology/Research for 20+ years and filing for numerous patents :p. Like I said, BS ; PM me.
Oh, did I mention that a patent is not a substantial patent until it has been challenged in the courts and "successfully defended". For the last "many years" the patent office has approved many questionable applications, simple because they are understaffed and the examiner wants to get it off his desk!
PS, thanks for the help on installing the LED black lights.
Gary
If the guy has a patent sell him the rights to the video........
If he has a patent on it. how come every boat dealer in the country could put the lights in for you and charge you to do so. I'm sure their not all paying a fee to this guy to able to do so.
I assume this John Doe at least gave you his name? With that, you (or anyone) can search the US Patent Database and see what he has/has not . Or I'll do it for you, if you send me his name.

Boone, I sent you 2 pm's I forgot to put my phone # in the first.
I'm calling BS on the guy. Send me the video and I'll post it and take whatever he wants to dish on it.
Souds like this has worried you some so if what he is saying is not legit I would take that as harrasment. You may have to file charges against him:D
A little research and what do we find? There is NO PATENT. Let's just call this guy "John Doe" for reference in this conversation. With that being said, John has no legal position to ask/request/demand that anyone refrain from discussing, make and publish video's, manufacture LED boat lights for rub rail installation or install LED lights in the rub rails. Bottom line, It appears John's objective was to use false information to intimidate you in order to protect his business interest.
Now, what does John have? John applied for what is called a "Provisional Application", number 61/112/765 on Nov. 9, 2008, which protected John's right to file for a patent at a later date. Then on May 13, 2010, John filed for a U.S. Patent "Boat Lighting Components and System", application number 20100118557. This information, as well as details of the patent application claims are in public domain and can be view over the Internet from the link given below.
Now, even if the patent were granted, in my opinion, you or others could publish "how to videos" and they would not infringe on subject patent!
Bottom line, John has no patent and no legal ownership of the technology, as he has only applied for a patent and now it will be up the the Patent Office to determine if said invention is new and novel and meets the criteria for issuance of a patent.
Carry On my friend :).

Guys, My name is Mike Daleo and I am the owner of Blue Water LED Lighting. I wanted to make it clear that Blue Water has nothing to do with this situation or this system. We had helped that company out about a year ago but we have parted ways from eachother and we have nothing to do with them. I only mention this because we get calls every day about this system so I know people confuse us with the people who "patented" this system and we are not in any way, shape or form affiliated.
I had a buddy who frequents fishin.com tell me about this post so I wanted to clear my name. I am not a "lawyer" kind of guy anyways.
To the original poster, good for you for trying to save yourself some money as I said to you on the ETF site many months back. I hope it is working out for you on the water.

thanks Mr. Boone, you did an outstanding job. on a saturday, and for free. I don't think theirs many lawyers, that would do that. it's just another way fishing members, on fishin.com help each other. and I thank you.:)
When I first read this I went to youtube and watched your video and was impressed.
I have not decided if I will install this type of light or not but for everyone who likes the DIY Projects, your video was very descriptive. I did not see any issues with your posted video, and would like to see it again and would believe this site would be a good place to post. You could possibly contact one of the moderators to see if they would be interested. With this type of video posted here, I could see many others being directed to this site to view and could possibly bring some advertising in from groups that sell the components which are needed to install.
Good Job on your lights and installation.
