Yea, I do get lost at night................I will tell you this, it SUCKED. I'm not a good navigator anyways, and when I got lost, I REALLY got LOST........funny thing, I was pretty close to where I thought I was, but by the time I got my bearings, we had pretty much wasted a couple hours fishing NON FISH water.
So you can all laugh here is exactly what happened.
We put in at Holly, and before dark I ran up by Sulfur Creek. Dive Rock area. We fished there past dark and then fished a little further back in Sulfur Creek.
After we left Sulfur, I had planned on fishing around Goat Island. Well........My plan to fish GOAT ended when I ended up somewhere other than Goat, and then somewhere up in Irons Creek and then over by Willow Grove, and then over in the Flats.......
2 HRS later, I finally got my bearings, when Martinson pulled out a compass, I got turned back around, and we headed to Pulsey. Once I hit Pulsey I new were I was and we got back to fishing....but by this time I was OUT OF THE GAME......and mostly mad at myself for not paying better attention.
I never realized just how DARK it could be........man, I could not make anything out.
One other thing I figured out.......my depth perception stinks. One time I though I was about 40-50 yards from the bank. I was only idling so it really didn't matter, but when I flipped on my spotlight, I was 10 yards away.......YIKES.
Oh well.......
Later,
Geo
Re: DNR yelled at me this weekend.........
I've been there, and done that myself. and I'd say most everyone on this site has a time or two in their life. especially the cloudy nights around the new moon. a few years back I was fishing with some friends, we took 3 boats. 2 in each boat and was striper fishing cherokee lake. we all new the lake very well. but we were having fun and the fog moved in on us before we new it. and we couldn't even cross the lake. we thought if we could idle cross the lake we could follow the shore back to the ramp. which was about a mile from where we were. each time we tried, we ended up back on the same side. we had to spend the night. but theres a cure for getting turned around on a lake at night. it's a lowrance hds-7 were ever you put in at, turn it on and lay your trail. it leaves a trail where ever you go. all you have to do is follow the trail line back to where you started. no more getting turned around on the water at night.
