Re: Dumber than a Rock
The coming up short part comes in when they come back and try to re-do the transaction, saying they have exact change. Let's say the drink cost 69 cents. Cashier gives them the drink, takes the $20 bill, and gives them back $19.31. Everybody's even at that point. Short-changer then says, "Hey, I have exact change, so just give me my 20 back, and I'll give you exact change." Confused cashier gives them the $20, short-changer then gives them 69 cents, and walks away. The register is then $19.31 short. People try things similar to this at the betting windows all the time. You have to be alert, and stick to your guns, or you're going to get ripped off.

Re: Dumber than a Rock
Roadtoad, you are right on. That is exactly how they do it. They will hit right when you are very busy or right before or at closing. If you arent paying attention, or a young teenager, they will get you. The ones I waited on parked behind the building and walked up to the drive through window(red flag). The two that my wife waited on came in the same car but both got out at the drive through window(red flag)and split up. One went to the other side of the building to the other drive through while the other guy stayed with his car and ordered there(red flag). I'm always impressed with the wad of 20's these guys have. There are hundreds of dollars in those rolls. They were doing way better than I was. After my little talk with the one scammer, it was amazing how word got out and they stopped hitting us as hard.

Re: Dumber than a Rock
I don think it is "our" generation... it is the generation before us that took no interest in teaching their children anything useful... just used public school systems as free child care. I got lucky. My parents took an interest in my education and i was taught book learnin and every day useful learnin like how to fix things without payin repair men.
Kids dont know how to count change in their heads because mommy and daddy just gave em all debit cards and just cover the charges.
And dont think you guys havent thought this... its the same thing you all say when the media starts blaming Guns or TV for the way their kids act... we respond by tellin the parents they need to get involved in their kids lives...
so next time you see a kid like this... instead of running him down... try treating him with respect and getting involved...
Wow, that is rich! I expect someone with any amount of intelligence would understand that I quoted because I didn't realize I would be the only person responding! My bad.
Bad news Grumpy ( the name fits) there were people you went to school with (maybe you, if you worked fast food) that also sometimes had trouble making change at Mickey D's!
BTW who watches the news or reads the paper when you can get all your info on the intrawebs that have no standards or lawyers that can tell them they might be breaking the law?
I feel your pain Grumpy! I was at the cashier in a Brandenburg store and she asked me what time it was. I said " There's a clock right in front of you." She replied " I know but I can't tell time on that type of clock." She could only tell time on digital clocks! I went to the Micky D's in Lexington and stopped to ask for directions to Bluegrass Parkway and I had to wait for someone that spoke English! Times are rough and it looks like they will get rougher!

Hey........Tom, in your case, you have a LEGAL right and an obligation to put 2 right between the eyes. If you don't her offspring are probably going to grow up to rob you someday. STOP THE CYCLE.

How do you manage to stay alive with so much hate in your life? It will eat you up from the inside out one day.

You're pin pointing it to an exact area. I agree with you but the reasons you listed ain't the only reasons...the reasons are plentiful and there's many more than what you called out, including bad genes from a "parent" who shouldn't have been allowed to produce off spring in the first place.
I'm a product of a public school education...I guess mainly because my family isn't Catholic and they couldn't afford anything else. And yes, they took an interest in my education, as best they could anyway, my mom graduated high school but dad only made it to the sixth grade, then he had to go to work.
I treat young folk with plenty of respect, believe me I do. Heck just recently I learned something from a 20-something while out on the job site. But as far as those idiots who can't figure out what size britches they're supposed to wear, I'll show them respect as soon as they start showing themselves some respect.

That kind of thing scares me, a whole lot more than the idea of Muslims building a mosque near ground zero does. If Islam is any threat to the US (which I don't believe it is), it's one we're capable of dealing with, at least in the short term. But the threat posed by an uneducated populace might well bring us down over the long haul.

Re: Dumber than a Rock
It's funny how years ago when we installed our
systems in some of these elementary schools we actually had to install digital clocks. Alot of the men on site joked about how we were just adding to the problems of kids having it to easy and not having to learn to read an analog clock.
Now most if not elementary schools we do have analog clocks.
