Boys and Girls, I am a UK fan but I also call a spade a spade and call them like I see them. I know this is an opinion and we all know what "opinion's" are but if UK is the 12th best team in the country per the RPI then RIP the RPI. The SEC right now is rated as the 6th best CONFERENCE in the country, just behind the Mountain West and just ahead of the Pac 10, and Kentucky is barely the 4th or 5th best team in the conference right now. Either that means the conference rankings are completely messed up or UK's ranking is completely messed up. You can't tell me that there are not at least 5-6 teams out of the Big East alone that would not drill the Big Blue on a neutral site plus the likes of PUKE (I mean Duke), Texas, Ohio State, Kansas ....

I should have clarified, neither Alabama and Ole Miss were in the top 100 when they beat UK.

Not sure what the UK/U of L thing has to do with the subject.

Hey Jaws, the RPI isn't an indicator of how well a team is doing. It is more an indicator of how good the teams they have played are doing and how strong a schedule you have played as you can see from the definition below. So Kentucky can **** and still have a high RPI ranking. It just shows that they have played a tough schedule and that teams like, oh say, Louisville, have played a lesser schedule to pad their won/loss record. In fact, if Louisville keeps winning in the Big East, it helps Kentucky's RPI and the more Kentucky loses the more it hurts Louisville's RPI. (Based on the fact that Kentucky beat Louisville at home this year). Just for example.

A team's strength of schedule (SOS) accounts for 75% of the RPI calculation and is 2/3 its opponents' winning percentage and 1/3 times its opponents' opponents' winning percentage.

And Tim, thanks for that clarification. Also I guess I could have worded my UK / U of L thing more like you did: I don't think it is the losses that have fans concerned, I think it is more of who those losses have come against. I mean really Drexel at the Yum Center? Providence?

I am not concerned with our losses to Drexel and Providence. I figure a signature road win over a top 5 team cancels those out. Have you noticed anything about the RPI and strength of schedule? Once conference play started, U of L's sos and RPI started rising while UK's started dropping. Almost makes you think that UK gets all of those cupcakes in conference.

What is UK's biggest win this season? Oh that's right, a win on the road against a depleted Louisville team. I guess that is what they will have to hang their hats on come selection Sunday. ;)

Oh by the way Tim, I wouldn't put that Louisville win as the Cat's biggest win this season. They beat the #2 team in the Big East also. And come to think of it they just beat the team that beat the # 1 team in the Big East. So they beat the # 2 and # 3 teams in the best conference in the country and they also beat the team that beat the # 1 team in that conference.........hmmmmm not bad i'd say.

Good win last night Cat fans, although no offense I think Tenn is horrible, but I'm not taking anything away from the fact UK played very well.

So UK is ranked 18th in both the Coaches and AP polls this week dropping 7 spots after losing 2 times last week. My analogy still holds that 6-7 Big East teams, CURRENTLY, would beat us on a neutral court and surely there are more than 10-11 teams across the country that would do the same. 18th is still too high of a ranking much less 12th. Somewhere around the 30th ranked team is about where they should be right now, before the UT game, and even that game did not much to improve that ranking for it was at home and UT is terrible.

Wow I just love the comparitive scores game, it makes so much sense logically. I hate to break it to you Shaggy, U of L is your teams biggest win. It is their only chance to beat a top 20 team on the road because of the putrid conference you play in.

Since we are doing the comparative score thing, I might as well play along (after all it makes so much sense). The Cats lost to UConn, who didn't lose a game out of conference, but now has four losses in the Big East. The Cats didn't just lose to them, UConn beat them like they stole something!

BAHAWA, I love that stuff to. I like it when the whole Tennessee beat Pitt and they are the best in the BE so therefore the SEC is just as good, OMG................. It's not about who thinks what conference is better that stuff is just stupid. Teams get better and or worse and have good and bad games thoughout the year.

Here's one for ya. Ky beat Notre Dame on a neutral floor. I would bet 1000 dollors today they can't beat them at Notre Dame right now. I would put the money where my mouth is. St John's beat Duke like they stole money from the church building fund, can they do it tomorrow at Duke, highly unlikely.................... Isn't this just goofy??????
