Re: Should I hate tournaments?
Hate on inconsiderate fishermen. i don't fish tournaments. Every time some SOB trolls right up to me, cast four times right where I'm currently fishing, then guns it out of there on plane, I assume he's a ****ing jerk tournament fisherman. That said, there are jerks everywhere, not just tournaments. Tournament fishermen should be required to display a sign with the tournament name, boat number, and a phone # for complaints. Anyone with complaints or any boat not displaying their sign gets automatically disqualified. That would make it simple. Then, we could blame the jerks NOT fishing tournaments!
i see a lot of flaw in that suggestion..lol. sometimes, people making complaints are idiots too. like the lady at a marina last year yelling at me by her houseboat saying us tourney guys come in too fast and make too much wake,. since i wasnt in a tourney and had actually trolled all around the houseboats coming up to the bank, i made a complete fool of her in front of her husband and friends and every other houseboat there. i think some even clapped...:)
Re: Should I hate tournaments?
Ok all you haters old there. All I do is fish. I fish tournaments and Im a weekend fisherman. I fish somewhere every weekend march-nov. Just about every big lake in the state. Why even ask Should I hate tournaments?? The way I look at it dont hate something you know nothing about. So do cuss jet skiers, wakeboarders, and 30ft baja running 70mph up and down the lake. And for the guy that was crying about ky/berkley lake about to many boats in tournaments down there is bull carp. Back in oct. I was down there in a tournament when there was three different ones going on. There was around 700 boats and there was still a lot of fish being caught. And still a lot of open water. Other people have said the same thing about the rude cut you off get in front of you ass bags, but that in every sport. Not everyone likes UofK basketball. But dont hate it if never have tried it. Its fun and you learn alot more than setting on here asking dumb stuff. If you hate it than start wakeboarding than you can piss every type of fisherman off.
Re: Should I hate tournaments?
You probably hate dogs and old people too.
Re: Should I hate tournaments?
Why I've even seen a guy cast out and try and snag my buddies line from the dock while cursing us out in front of small children!!! However, I thought we handled that with complete class!!! Don't you? Try not and take all of my money this year!!! If maybe I could just make one or two checks, you can have the rest!!! This should have been after fishinislife. Not real sure how to use this board. Sorry.
Re: Should I hate tournaments?
I agree with various previous opinions. I've been on both ends of said situations. Hate the tournaments if you want it won't do you any good. They are fun and probably a lot better if you can cash in. I don't know that feeling never cashed in. Everyone has their right to be on the water, however they may. Like the previous comments you can't blame the tournament for the actions of a few. Just seems as our world becomes more and more populated waterways become more and more popular and the number of the few increases. Not from just the tournaments, but just some people in general. Remember we all have an a**hle ,doesn't mean we have to be one.
Re: Should I hate tournaments?
This is a serious question for you all. Should I hate tournaments?
I don't tournament fish (never have) nor do I watch it on TV. It seems to me like in the last several years the number of tournaments has exploded and every weekend, every major lake in Ky has one.
I guess people are making money off them and I guess public interest in fishing is a good thing. However its really hard for me to not hate fishing tournaments. One thing I love about fishing is the solitude, the laid back attitude, and the act of fishing itself. It chaps my hide to see the sponser stickered boats racing around, the unfriendly attitudes of some folks, etc.
Please you all give me a reason to change my attitude because it seems like we are stuck with these events forever now. Even on the smaller lakes....
If you like your money - yes, you should hate tournaments! If you are a gamler - go ahead. Otherwise it does take the FUN out of fishing for many at a costly price.
Re: Should I hate tournaments?
In every walk of life I have found a douche bag. For that reason I don't hate all nascar fans or Tennessee fans or UK fans. No matter whether these people are in a tournament or not they will probably still be on the water. So if they are inconsiderate in a tourney then they probably are that way in everything they do. As long as we still live in a free country and get out on public waters we must deal with the rest of the people who surround us good or bad.
Re: Should I hate tournaments?
I don't hate the tournaments. Like said above, they bring in business to your local economy and create a little fun and competion for some local fisherman that wish to partake. I am not a bass fisherman and never will be, but I respect ALL fisherman on the lake as long as they respect me. However I do hate how most tournament anglers treat others on the water. On plane in the head waters of any creek no matter who else is around, flying right upon ya anywhere they decide to throw her in neutral and kill it pushing wake all over ya, rude a$$holes 98% of the time with no respect for ANYONE else on the water. Just an example, a local bait and tackle shop owner was fishing off my boat with me last summer while a tournament was going on. We were on a shallow flat in fishing creek when a bass boat tourney angler came flying in on uswide open, turned her off and coasted almost into my boat. As his wake sloshed and splashed all over my boat and just barely coasted by without hitting us, my friend asked the man if he ever shopped at his store here in somerset. The man replied, yes, all the time. Friend quickly replied, Dont ever come in there again if you dont have any more respect and sense than this! I just hate how most of the tourney guys (key on MOST) think they can disregard all safety issues and guidelines when tourney fishing. SLOW DOWN, CHILL OUT and be more repectful and courteous to others and I'll guarntee, this topic wouldn't even be an issue!
