Busting chops day huh...........
I see how it works. I'll store that one in my hip pocket and then unleash a fury upon thee when the time is right. Will it be football season, or will it be basketball season? Or could I do the unthinkable and drop it during a women's lacrosse thread? You can begin losing sleep now........
I do fall in line with most of what RoadToad posts. Perhaps it's because we are both in the healthcare field. He usually does allow facts to get in the way of an argument!
Ha Ha I hear ya Bro.............:)
Fireworks are free paid for by the sponsors - but Police & host of other Public Safety people has to cost Metro major bucks!
Yes, but worth every penny spent. The economic impact of Thunder is crazy! Think of all the hotel rooms filled, all of the dollars dropped at restaurants, fees paid by vendors, sales tax collected, and on and on and on. I think the investment of the fireworks, air show, and city services is around $1 million, but the return is in the ballpark of $31 million. Not a bad return for one single day! It's a win for the city and the state of KY.
Thunder is truly amazing. If you haven't been, go at least once in your life.
The weather was bad this year, but the show must go on. Seeing the F-22's capabilities is pretty dang awesome....and knowing that you're watching 140 million dollars fly around is almost surreal. The Heritage Flight is by far the highlight of the day for me. There's no greater sight than seeing three staples in our aviation history fly along each other...the P-51 Mustang, the F-4 Phantom, and the F-22. I still think they should expand it to include two other planes, like the A-10 Warthog that was on hand, and the F-18. I suppose more than 3 planes in such tight formation would be a little dangerous.
That was not what you said Mills, we were talking about athleic scholarships. BTw don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!
Again you misunderstand the truth....Tax money goes to Universities and it's spread out to any and all depts. of the University to use as they see fit.......Got the info from teh Peeps at U of L and UK...so see I do know what the heck I was talkin about on the Tax money leaving our pockets to support the Universities..... Even if just 1 penny of the tax money goes towards the Basketball dept.

Art either you missed my posts, or maybe you have some other info? Again, it does not cost the city anything, the Kentucky Derby Festival Corporation, a private, not-for-profit corporation, pays for it all. But you're right, it brings a lot of people into town, and is of at least some economic benefit, even in off years like this one. But I'd venture to say that this year the benefit was limited. A lot of vendors lost money.

I saw your posts. I didn't say the city paid for it, I just said the total bill was around $1 million...which was covered by sponsors, KDF, etc.
Yes, the out of town vendors/popcorn stands/hotdoggers got hurt, but the local restaurants/bars did well. Heard on the radio that even though attendance appeared to be down on the riverfront, the downtown area was still very much packed with people. It seems most hid out inside, and later ventured outside for the fireworks.
The rest of the Derby Festival will suffer with the river being up. Where the Chow Wagon is generally located is underwater. I doubt there will be a steamboat race either.

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG WRONG!
The athletic departments at UK and U of L are self funded for profit. They actually put money back in the general student fund. You did not get that from the folks at either University. You got some information, but I can promise you that your tax dollars do not fund the athletic department.
Mills you can tell me all of the things you thought you heard, but that is not the truth.

I started to but thought...........................Why......completely BLINDED by Hate.
Re: Thunder over louisville
Wrong again tim, I personally asked the UK and U of L people who gave the College Info to the High School, right out of their mouths..If it was not for the Tax dollars helping to support the Universities, none and I repeat none of the Scholorships could be given out free, as a full ride as they say.....
Re: Thunder over louisville
Mills I am going to say it one last time as plain and simple as I can, please try and grasp this concept: The Athletic Department is self funded. It makes millions of dollars. The football and basektball programs pay for themselves and the rest of the sports. Trust me, it is fact. When the people you talked to were discussing scholarships, they were not talking about athletic scholarships. This is fact, not heresay, rumor or innuendo.
Do some research Clyde no money given to the athletic departments, they don't need it and they actually give money to the schools general fund.
Re: Thunder over louisville
Laclean McClain has said this on his program....say....................................................................about a thousand times, lol.
Re: Thunder over louisville
It is wager time I guess Clyde....how about $50 that says I can post links to the truth about this before the weekend is out? Whaddya say, since you spoke to the horses mouth?
None of the scholarships could be given out for sports without tax money? What the crap do you think they do with the roughly $17 million dollars in pure profit that the U of L basketball team makes? That is the money they make after meeting the budget, strictly profit! That is not even counting the football money. Do you really think they or UK need any of your tax dollars for a basketball scholarship?
Yeah the "MOST PROFITABLE COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAM IN THE COUNTRY" needs your tax money to fund the players scholarships.
