Re: Ohio River, first sm bass and a Mooneye?
We lucked out that day using that bait shown. 2 Day event with 106 boats. We had 150lbs on day one and 94lbs on day two. Day one was nuts, we had nearly 500 lbs of fish by noon and left that spot alone for day two. No huge pigs, the biggest was 45 but that spot was loaded with 20-40 lb fish. Lots of that type bait around where Chuck fishes... I've been threatening to fish with him for years now - one of these days we'll hook up.
I call the Mooneyes and Skippies Catfish Candy. They love those baitfish above all others. We always get excited when we can get those for bait versus plain Gizzard shad.
500 lb's by noon, Now that is getting it done, Wow, way to go...
Again, how big was the one in that pic???? Sorry I went back and read the post again and you did answer me , sorry....

44.6lbs to be exact and that fish alone paid over $4,000... :-)
The other bigger blue in my buddy's hand was 38. We had 6 fish on at the same time with that being one of them. It ended up being a tangled mess and I had to drag that one in by hand. These fish were caught in the Markland pool. The tourney was out of Rising Sun, IN. They hold an annual event where the city kicks in $10K which brings the boats.
Not as many 50+ pounders in this pool yet compared to where you guys fish. Fishing seems to get better the further downstream you go. A new Cabela's record was just set out of Henderson - 210lbs in 5. Big Fish in that event was pushing 70.
