Re: Eggner's Ferry Bridge Hit By a Barge and Partially Collapsed
It was built in 1930,looked like it was built in 1908,narrow meet another 20 ft plus dual wheel boat major pucker factor.
While it served as a major artery it needed replaced 40 years ago.
And if you look at the video with it wrapped all over the front end it didnt flatten a thing on the boat not even the railing.Engineers have words for that called metal fatigue, bridge beams bent boat didnt.
Since that avenue wont be used for a bit ask for a barge to tap the one on Barkley.
I came from W.va and the silver bridge,Point Pleasant,W.Va. wasnt that narrow, and havnt crossed one such as these two since 1970s in w.va across the new river gorge, and the state shut those down prior to a canoe striking them.
Maybe you will get a decent bridge out of it.
Re: Eggner's Ferry Bridge Hit By a Barge and Partially Collapsed
I wonder if the boat is sittin on the bottom with all that weight on it.............
Re: Eggner's Ferry Bridge Hit By a Barge and Partially Collapsed
No,it's floating alright from all of the pictures I saw. It's a big boat.

Here's the renderings of the proposed "new" bridges : http://www.explorekentuckylake.com/projects/bridgedesign.htm
Looks like they may have to speed up their timetable !! The detours add between 20-30minutes, to around an hour more ... to get from the Cadiz area to the Aurora area. And that's just a Mapquest estimate, and not considering the added traffic volume.
It doesn't make a difference what section or span he was going under, none of them were tall enough. The typical route for this ship was on the Mississippi River, the clearance for this ship could have never made it under any section of the bridge.
Wrong!!!
Re: Eggner's Ferry Bridge Hit By a Barge and Partially Collapsed
See the piers with the paint? That's where he should have been....

The bridge is south of the ****. The road leading to Auro. US68/80
Re: Eggner's Ferry Bridge Hit By a Barge and Partially Collapsed
Maybe they'll dump the section of the bridge that came off in the lake. Artificial reef.
