IKE gets a DQ

Good decision on the DQ. They have drawn a line in the sand and said enough is enough. BASS/ESPN had to make a stand....he did this in front of spectators and the word would have gotten out somehow.

He trashed the American flag

Damaged a boat he does not own...2nd year in a row

Used expletives on TV (I do agree with buzzking they did not need to show this)

If the law was broken Florida F and G will deal with it, if not BASS has a responsibilty to promote the "right thing", that is not culling dead fish.

A very talented angler with what appears to be a very large ego
and a less than professional demeanor.

My opinion........

Here is my thought. If you remember correctly. When Ike made the phone call to the T directer, he wasn't sure if the state had a law saying you couldn't cull a dead fish or not. What does that show for that guy, that is supposed to know all "the rules". I think it is rediculous, the way they DQ'd his weight. If Tony Stewart & Kevin Harvick get into it on the track, and hit each other thay have to make a pass down pit road. Not lose their points for that race. If they want to be like NASCAR why not just penalize him for one fishes weight. Maybe the biggest of the bag he brings in? Fine him money.
Unsportmanlike conduct? Give me a break. We all get mad, most of us cuss, most of us throw a fit at times. I think it is called "being human". I am a big Ike supporter, maybe it is because he is human. My kids think he is great. If I mad you mad, I am sorry. Get over it and go on. Like we all should.

You were the first I read that addressed his comments about the airiation system. But, he did not say it was inoperatable, he said they tole me to use it, but I hate those things!!

I agree, there should be a no dead fish cull rule, and there maybe next year. Remember what I called the "Ike" rule from last year? After Ike beached his boat in the concrete river, after the tournament, BASS passed a new rule, any damage to the boat that is up and above the normal amount of wear and tear would have to be paid for by the angler. Looks like Ike is buying some Triton boat equipment!!!

Also, the coverage I saw said it "might" be against Fl. law, they did not know. So, if it is, I'm sure the footage will play a part in any prosecution. Also, I was disappoint in Shaw Grigsby. He said, while discussing the FL law thing, that since he was out there alone, he was good to go! Huh???

Finally, hypocrissy at work. ESPN (Trip Weldon) said that he was dqed for cussing and throwing that fit in front of fans. That the fans of fishing and BASS should not see that, and it was the wrong message. So what is ESPN doing? I saw three times yesterday, and at least 5 this morning already. Wonder if the word hypocrissy is in their vocabulary?

I can't believe how many supporters this jacka$$ still has,its really pretty sad.He fished in an off limits area in the 04 classic intentionally,fished right beside a "no fishing" sign in the classic in pittsburgh in 05 and now all his bs yesterday and he still has supporters,unreal!!He constantly breaks the rules,acts like a fool,uses foul language and isn't even smart enough to turn on an aerator and he makes all tourney fishermen look bad through these actions.There's already plenty of anti-tournamnet sentiment and people are working hard to get tourney's stopped on many lakes and idiots like ike only give these people more ammunition against us.Throwing back the dead fish was something PETA can use for their cause and i'm sure they will.He needs to be run out of the sport before he does any more damage!

Hey guys it worked. ESPN aired the situation for ratings. It obviously worked look at this thread grow, fastest I seen in a long time. Now people will watch more just to see what happens next. If ya dont like what they air dont watch. I dont. To much coverage for the top guys even if they are losing. A rookie can have the lead by 10 lbs and gets no recognition like the big guys. Ike brings viewers and thats what they want. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ My opinion. You ever think maybe some of this BS is rehearsed. These shows can make or break a pro, so that is what they are doing for Ike making him a name and the channel that airs it. And you keep watching for more drama. Hardly anything gets posted on here about a tourney unless something bad happens like Ike. It is life, cannot be stopped.
My opinion. As far as breaking a rule I believe that all anglers have to abide by the laws for that body of water or be penalized for it. That should be in the tourney rules.

Barry I don't think Ike got d qed for culling dead fish , It was the baby temper tantrum he threw and the cussing on live tv. I also think a lot of veterans as well as millions of other Americans don't appreciate the Flag being beat over the console of a bass boat. I hope they "BAN" the sucker

You're the first one I've seen in this thread that made mention of the fact that Ike said he was told to use the aerators but he didn't like them. Therefore, they didn't malfunction (hear that Velvick?), and he didn't forget. He just didn't want to use them. That's exactly what Ike said in the initial showing of the film. Did anyone else notice that that portion of the film was conveniently edited out in all re-runs of the incident shown this morning?

I heard that there were no boats following Ike today. A little justice. I think he is a good fisherman but a bad sport. I also think ESPN did the right thing by showing his little temper tantrum. It shows the fishing world what kind of person he is. He has made his bed now he has to sleep in it. Plus BASS may not of ever had someone act like this in a major T before and they wanted to set the tone for a bad sport. I think they acted the right way and Put the little 3 year old in the corner. Just my opinion.

That part has been aired twice this morning, Ike was more worried about spooking fish with the noise of the live wells than keeping his catch alive. Go Kevin Wirth !!!

Let talk about Tiger anybody remember him cussing and throwing multiple fits on tv and the PGA fined him $10,000.00 after his fifth offense. I would have to say I appriciate Bass for taking the right stand on unsportsman like conduct but they pick and choose how they do it to and for what reasons. That is wrong and where like Nascar and all the other sports they bow down to sponsors and the $$$$$$$$$$$$ Remember when Denny got mad 2 years ago on the Al river when he lost a five pounder and broke his rod and cussed. no dq what about Timmy Horton alomost Killing a Man on Old Hickory no dq as far as the dead fish I like the rule where you can bring dead fish in and not count against your five fish limit eat it or give it to somebody to eat. That's possible. After seeing it for the umpteenth time, I just TIVO'ed right past seeing it again.

First, I woud like to start by saying that I am a young angler and I absolutely love this sport! On that same measure, I absolutely hate Ike. I respect his angling ability, and that is it. What made our sport so special for so many years were the people involved. Great anglers and great people like Rick Clunn, Larry Nixon, and Denny Brauer. Even when these guys were at the top of the sport they had a great respect for other anglers and even a greater respect for the fish. Example: In the Ultimate Match Fishing, Rick Clunn was leading KVD going into the fourth quarter. He could have pulled out in the middle of the lake and locked up the win. However, out of respect for KVD and the competition, he continued to fish. We need more people like these guys in this sport. Secondly, bass fishing has been growing for many years and will continue to grow even without people like Ike. People say he has drawn more people to fishing, but I dont want the kind of people he draws. We need more people who are attracted to bass fishing for the love of the sport and the competition, not for the money. We used to not have people like Terrell Owens in our sport, but publicity and money have brought them in. Whats next, are the professional bass anglers going to go on strike for bigger payouts like baseball and hockey. Frankly, I dont like the direction our sport is heading and people like Ike, and the people he attracts only make it worse. We need anglers who can be role models for our youth. Young guys like KVD, Martens, Hackney, Kelly Jordan, and Edwin Evers. These guys are great anglers and great people. They are in it for the love of the sport and the betterment of bass fishing. Guys that take care of our resources and waterways, and most importantly show our youth how to act on the water. Ike is a great angler, but he is not great for the sport. He is helping to change the qualities of bass fishermen from what has made this sport so special for so many years, to the qualities that are inherent in athletes in most other sports. Qualities like wanting to always be in the spotlight, example Ike. Just my two cents. Good fishing and tight lines.
