Dale Hollow...the only thing I can figure....
I agree that them not being at the expo did not cause the down fall of Jim's expo, but I do have a question while we are on the subject. Why is KDFWR going to have a booth set up at the Nashville Boat Show?
A---MY vast influence with KDFWR,told them to go,if they don't do my bidding;they get a timeout and have to set in corner for an hour.
B--Louisville and Nashville show are put on by NMMA. A package deal to attend both shows? Dale Hollow,Ky and Barkley are in Ky also. Lots of Tenn sportsmen hunt and fish in KY.Trying to promote Ky's sporting opportunities.
If anyone believes "A" is the correct answer, you need to get back on the turnip truck.
Randy/Greg are you going to the Cincy show this year?
Dave.
Dave-- Will at Cincy first 3 days only. Then to L-ville show,Cincy and L-ville over lap last 5 days.
Randy
While I agree that Jim has a financial interest in the lawsuit, some of the accusations are pretty serious for a state run agency that uses my tax dollars (i.e. licenses). This is typical of most government run organizations with no accountability. If they are making policies that we all have to abide by, but they profit from then it's a very serious issue. It appears that Jim was trying to expose some dealings by the commissioner and key members of the KDFWR. While I despise a lot of the media, they are very powerful in exposing corruption in government. In fact, in many cases, it's the only way. Neither you nor I can put together all of the pieces of the puzzle or have the sounding board to hold organizations accountable. The media can do this (see the Herald Leader KAC/KLC articles). It wasn't until the HL ran the articles that the state auditor got involved. Probably would never have gotten involved. I know there's two sides to every story and a jury will have to figure this one out. Given Gassett's political connections however, I doubt Strader will win.
On a side note, while I agree that the state's deer population is very healthy, the telecheck system is a joke. I've been on-line several times and there are blanks in the system where someone killed a deer, but for some reason it didn't record their name and info. Not saying the old system is that much better (people could still poach and not bring the deer in), but we lost a piece of our heritage when they went to the telecheck. I remember the comradery as a kid going to the local country store and seeing all of the deer and hearing the stories. This was a huge influence on me as a kid and one that came back to me after many years of being away from hunting.
Would someone explain to me how KDFWR not having a booth at a show would cause it to bite the dust? They don't do any thing except sell licences, answer a few questions, hand out reg booklets and fill up space that can't be sold to a paying exhibitor! Their booth never seems to have a crowd around it.Sometimes bring in a boat off Ohio River to display(Fill up empty space-no paying exhibitor needed it). If KDFWR brings in that many attendees at a show, why doesn't anyone post about whether KDFWR will be there? Bottom line -Another business bites the bullet due to tough economic times!!!!!!!!!
Did you read the complaint? There's a lot more to it than just them pulling out of the show.
Read the complaint and attachments.Main input of suit is that his show went bust and KDFWR caused it! All the other stuff is posturing to build creditability to his claim they cost him bunches of money.Plus they hadn't done what he wanted changed in wildlife regs. Don't really care about him or KDFWR; BUT---IT WILL COST YOU,ME AND ALL SPORTSMEN IN STATE PRECIOUS LICENCE FEES TO SETTLE THIS MESS!!!!
IN all squabbles there are 3 sides-MINE ;YOURS and somewhere in between THE TRUTH!!

The main point I was trying to make is that them pulling out of the show isn't all of it, which I think we agree on. As to whether the rest is just posturing and/or Strader trying to impose his will on KDFWR, I think we'll have to just agree to disagree on that. Which, being Americans, we are free to do, Thank God!

You don't care about KDFWR? Now THAT I take issue with. Love 'em or hate 'em, they have a direct influence on fishing and hunting in the Commonwealth, and you, I, and all sportsmen in this state SHOULD care!

Can't argue with that.

Right, wrong or indifferent, this right here is where it gets ugly in my opinion, this is where the rubber meets the road when you start talking about where license fee dollars go...OUCH!
Road Toad --I was infering that I was not picking favorites between Strader and KDFWR.Personally I think that KDFWR are doing a good job for all sportsmen .
