I could post a poll on here. Don't know what the questions would be though.
You can put the email addresses here that could be copied and pasted into an email and some sample letters on here that could be pasted into the email and bombard them with emails. Honestly I have not read the whole thread so I don't know what is being suggested/proposed so I am not endorsing anything. Safety sounds good though!
I am always on the lookout for clueless people and especially people that go flying around at night and in the fog with relyng on their gps not to hit anything. GPS is not Radar.
I think there has been questions on whether someone might gladly pay for a boaters safety class if it was made mandatory? the other has been should it be mandatory? Should we continue to police ourselves and leave government out.
I for one was almost in two horrific accidents this year because someone didn't know the meanings of the lights on a boat I stopped him to chew him out after following the rules as they are supposed to be followed and he responded that he didn't know about how you should read navigation lights - this man was at least 50 yrs old! And since the adoption of the hunter safety course and having to pay $25.00 ONE TIME, I still remember the words the instructor said "a safety is a mechanical device that can and will fail".

I did, but I am not suprised by it.
I give up. People now are all wondering why this country is going to pot and its because of too much government intervention. And now some of you want more government intervention in the form of mandatory safety classes and boater driving licenses.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people want the government or someone else to rule all aspects of their lives instead of being responsible for their own actions.
In the previous post about the new boat from Bass Pro Shop. It was your decision to buy that boat and pull it home and take it to the lake with no idea how to operate the boat or pull a trailer. It should not be someone else's responsibility to teach you these things, you should have done it yourself prior to purchasing the boat.
There are all types of classes out there that people can take if they so choose to do. I don't think we need someone telling us we have too.

My point about the post was just to show the laws that govern the operation of a motor vehicle versus the laws that govern the operation of a boat. A 35 yr old that has never held a drivers liscense still has to go thru the process of getting one to learn how to drive safely on the road. There is no difference in doing 70mph in a Bass Boat versus 70mph in the truck pulling the bass boat to the ramp versus 70mph in a car with no boat in tow. What I was trying to point out was here I was a NEW boat owner with no experience at all and I was legally able to pull the boat thru Cincinnati at rush hour and drive the boat down Lake Cumberland at night all within the first 4 days of being a boat owner and there was no law or other regulation that could stop me from doing so.

I can agree with one part of this "WE" (as sportsman) probably don't need someone telling us we have to take that - because for the most part "WE" have educated ourselves. However "WE" are not the only ones on the water. So yes, I think someone needs to tell all those people out there that are not going to take the initiative to educate themselves that they are now required to. It is a matter of public safety, and more importantly MY safety. Is a mandatory boater education going to eliminate all accidents on the water - No. However, it will prevent some, and possibly save a few lives - to me that is worth it.
Some people say the larger tournament circuits are already taking actions by requiring you to have a certain amount of liability insurance. However, have you ever had to actually prove that to anyone. Other than being asked if you have that insurance, I have never been asked for proof of that.
Yup. Had to have proof of liability several times when entering tournaments.
Hey Grumpy, YOUR UNBELIEVABLE, the post asked for opinions not smart a## comments. But as Super Moderator with all the power you think you have, it is ok for you to post what you want and delete what you want.
unbelieveable.im gonna copy this and hang it on my wall so when i get to thinking bout fishing a tourney i can think you or someone like you will be there and i can save my money.
Look, I am 40 and have only had my bassboat for 3 years. No offense to people I have talked to but how do I knpow they told me right? I have no idea how to follow channels, which is really the safe side to overtake or pass- when meeting someone. There is alot of things I dont know that I do, age has nothing to do with it. I wasnt raised around bassboats nothing but jonboats so this is still new to me. When I fished the crusade with tholt99 a few weeks ago at rough, I let him take us out.. no way was I going to try to figure out how to handle all that traffic but I need to. I will look into a class for sure and Im not embarrassed to say it either.
i applaud you also,my father in law told me that when i get to where im not scared of what can happen on the water i need to stay home.i think it was good advice.
Look, I drive a tractor trailer, I had to take a written test, road test and pass a physical to do it. Not everyone can drive one, even if they wanted to. I have a knack for it, a God given talent that I can bullseye a dock in the middle of a Kansas tornado, IMO, Im the best there is bar none but that dont mean I cant have a tire blow out, jack knife in an ice storm ect... Some of you are like that with a boat. I have seen guys in situations that would make me cringe, I have had trailers in situations that would scare the daylights out of people. No one is bullet proof in anything. I think it would not hurt anyone to take a boaters safety class, if you know it then thats great but remember there are alot more like me out there who know some things and is trying to be safe but will make some mistakes at times. When I takwe this class, other than acting stupid, there will be no excuses. BTW, think abou the 80 yr old man driving that 50 ft motor home, he has no training either, just like Woody, pick it up heres the keys enjoy your trips sir.

x2 = Multiple time especially if you win a tourney, usually that is one of the polygraph questions

I've only seen it once out of multiple tournaments. Of course, I never have won anything and needed a polygraph.
