Recently in my kayak I left the rods in the rod holders; I was pull kayak up a ramp to my truck. I got stuck a little and jerked the kayak to get it past a stump. I ended up breaking the handle off my rod. What a bummer.
Fisheater hasn't posted in a while so I will tell one on him. Two years in a row, same boat slip at Hendricks Creek, knocks the head off his trolling motor. He still bangs in on there every time, but hasn;t broken it in the last couple of years.
To avoid public ridicule, I won't give the long version, Just a capsule. 5 o'clock in the morning, dark, goin crappie fishing. Pound of minnows in a bag, pressurized with Oxygen. Puttin boat in the water, get out of passenger side with bag of minnows in hand. In same hand---Cigarette. Turn around, touch bag with said cigarette. Friend says,--- "Did you see that lightning?" I reply--- Shut up and help me pick up all these minnows from the ramp!! Plastic bag+Oxygen= Extreme conflagration. Nuff said. Thanks for the time Joe

kyfanatic-tell your wife ,her line wrap was nothing compared to what Tim Farmer did on river with me while shooting a striper show.Hung a planer board up,went to retrieve it ,Tim locked trolling motor up with 80 lb mono,and then locked outboard up with 80 lb mono.Had to drift to bank and strip near naked in 50 degree water to clear both messes.I am not good at pulling props on water and not losing a piece.
Do you remember what year you caught smallie? "Might" have it in some of my digital photos.
How about a couple of bonehead things I have seen that were very COSTLY
I had night fished Cumberland back in 2003 one Friday night. I was taking out the next morning as the Ohio Joyboating Navy was launching. The courtesy dock was full and I was buying my time watching the 4-6 lane reverse Indy 500 was taking place on the ramp. There was this monster wave creator backing ever so gently down the ramp then up then down at an angle then up then down a bit more then up as the guy in the boat is giving his wife behind the wheel directions. Mind you this is a Diesel Dually truck in dire need of a better muffler as well. He is getting madder and she past mad about 5 minutes ago. Finally in the water and he tries to fire her up. It is not going so well and the guy in the boat is getting hotter and hotter. He finally gets it started and is giving it hell to warm up the motor. He puts it in gear but it won't come off the trailer. He gives it more gas but no dice. The guy launching next to him asked him if he unhooked his boat straps? To which the guy in the boat to him to mind his own **** business. He was now yelling for his wife to back the boat in deeper so he could get the boat off the trailer. The problem was with him hammering on the boat in reverse and the Diesel motor running she could not hear him. He finally yelled loud enough with the following "Bi***, I said back up" which she heard LOUD AND CLEAR. She put it in Drive and gunned it and never let off until she stopped in the parking lot. The problem was that he had the motor trimmed all the way down and in gear giving it throttle. Pretty funny watching the motor parts flying all over the ramp with Diesel engine smoke bellowing. By the way, he had not removed the boat straps. I looked at the guy in the boat next to me and said "that's gonna be a long cold ride back to the buckeye state". He said he would love to be in the backseat listening to the "discussion"
A couple of years ago in December I was putting in at Holly Creek on Dale Hollow. I had launched and parked and was walking down to the boat as another boat pulled up. They were getting the boat ready to launch right at the top of the ramp. I got in my boat and was bundling up for the ride to my honey hole as they started backing down the ramp as I was idling away and I then hear what sounds like a train wreck over my shoulders. I look back and the nice white Triton is sitting on the ramp a good 10 feet from the waters edge. I turn around and the guy gets out of the truck and looks at his buddy in the boat, throws up his arms and says what the hell happened. His buddy says I don't know I was on the trailer now I am not. I asked was anybody hurt and the guy in the boat, with a sense of humor, says just Myrtle. I did not see a woman and said who is Myrtle to which he said it was his boat. I said you boys fished yesterday didn't you? They said yes. I told them to feel their bunk boards to which they said they were solid ice. I told them that there guys that worked at the marina would be there in a bit. They said thanks. O offered them to go fishing with me but they declined. Keep that front wench strap on your boat when backing down the ramp ESPECIALLY in the winter

I think it was around 2001,but I honestly don't remember for sure.We had a great time regardless,felt terrible about locking up the prop. We'll try it again sometime,might leave her at home though.Besides if I catch a 20 pound striper,she catches a 25lber.lol
I took a trip with my cousin to visit his daughter and son-in-law in Cajun country of Louisiana back in the 70's,His son-in-law took us fishing in Rockefeller reserve which was a National Refuge at that time.
Anybody that's every been in that country knows how canals all look the same and you can easily get turned around in the brine water marsh.While trying to find our way out of a big pond we ran aground on a hump of ground between canals,a Louisiana Fish and Wildlife officer came by just as we did it and pulled us off.He never checked our license,but as soon as we were free and started out the Son-In-Law ran us aground again,this time the CO pulled us out and asked if we thought we could stay on the water because he had better things to do than pull us out every 5 minutes.lol
The same trip,my cousin,an old coal miner from the Virginia/Kentucky border decided he wanted to sit on a piece of bank around a marsh pond we were fishing,no sooner than he threw his lines in and sat down,Alligator heads started popping up and easing his way to see what he was throwing in.we watched him with grins as they kept getting closer,final he broke and said"I believe I was doing better in the boat fellers,come get me"LMAO.
Years ago I had bought a Ranger from a friend of mine. It was my first boat so I didn?t really know anything about them at the time. So anyway I was having trouble with it. It would start but when you give it gas it would die. Well I called my good buddy and told him what was going on. He said bring it over and we will take a ?look see at it? Well we took the hood off and started it on the hose. Don?t sound right. So we went down and got new plugs and put them in and started it. Sounds better so we got the bright idea to take it down and put it in the Kentucky River, Frankfort behind the library. For those of you that don?t know the ramp is pointed into the current just in front of the Frankfort boat club and marina. There used to be a nice big sign right on the end of the dock of the marina that said Frankfort marina. Well here comes the funny part. I am backing him down the ramp and he is in the boat. Now picture this. Right above the ramp and marina is a bridge that go?s over the river (Singing Bridge) There happened to be about 3 boys walking over that bridge just about the time I was putting him in the water. They started yelling down. ?Hey mister that sure is a nice boat? His reply is ?Thanks? ?Hey mister what kind of boat is that?? ?It?s a ranger? he said ?Boy that?s nice? they said.
Here is another important tidbit of information. The night before it rained its ass off all over the state. The river is up and flowing muddy as hell.
So he starts the boat and it starts right up and he backs it off the trailer. He then heads out into the river. The current grabs the boat and he hits the gas and???.. It dies. So now he is in the current and the boat is heading right toward the dock. He tries to start the boat and it will start but after giving it gas it dies again. Oh Crap. Then the bow of the boat goes right threw the ply wood sign that says Frankfort Boat Club. Bounces back and now he is in the middle of the river heading towards the dam.. OH SH#T. All the while the boys on the Bridge are now calling him a dumb ass lol.. And telling him what a piece of Sh#t the boat is lol.. Just laughing there ass off calling him all kinds of good stuff. Now he is running back and forth from the front of the boat to the back like a crazy man trying to start it and using the trolling motor. Mean while I am running down the boat dock for some reason. Not sure what good it was because I had no rope or anything. We are both yelling at each other lol? He is about to make a swim for it before he goes over the dam when the boat makes it to one side of the river and he used the trolling motor to get into some over hung trees. He is grabbing for limbs and stuff and gets the boat tied to the bank. On the other side of the river. So I am thinking to myself well at least he got to the bank, At that point he tied it off and he is now making a bee line to the bridge. Those boys better be glad they where long gone by the time get got there because I know he would have thrown every one of them off. I had to wait 3 days for the river to subside before I could retrieve my boat from the trees. Not a good day on the river. Bonehead for sure.
By the way it was the power packs that were out on the motor. Only running on 2 cylinders

I'm throwing my favorite buzzbait a few weeks ago. I bought this bait at Lexington Boat Show about 10 years ago. It was a custom bait (can't find them anywhere). I've caught a pile of bass on it! Anyway, I throw it for a while and decide to put something else on that rod. I'm thinking about my next offering while cutting the buzzbait off. The next thing I know, I underhand toss the my buzzbait right off the back of the boat into the lake. I just stood there and looked at the water for about 5 seconds, wondering why in the world I just did that.
I've got a few more but they pale in comparison to some I've already read! This is awesome!!!
The day before I was going to fish my first bass tournament with my buddy, it was predicted to be a 500 boat tourney on a Northern Missouri lake. He really wanted his old tri hull to look good so we decided to put down 1/2" greenboard and put all new carpet on it all new trim and the works. We decided to attach the new floor with drywall screws, well we got her all prettied up and headed to the lake.
We put in the morning of the tournament cause we didnt have time to prefish and about a half hour waiting for take off his bilge pumps came on and just kept pumping..... one team laughed and called us "the fire boat" because of the dual streams pumping outta the bilge. we were able to fish all day but when we pulled out and was wiping the boat off my rag got caught on something when I looked under the boat there were screws all in a perfect little row on both sides of the boat........ bad thing is we only used 1" screws. New project only costed about $400 (fiberglass repair)
I bought a Terminator Titanium Buzzbait when they first came out a few years ago at about $7 each if I recall. I was bragging to my buddy at how I was going to smoke him at Ky Lake that morning as I was attaching the Palomar knot. Cinched down the knot, bit off the "tag" end and flipped the bait over the side of the boat, PLOP, there went the bait for I had bit off the wrong end of the line and just threw the bait overboard. We were only in about 8 feet of water at the time and I tried everything to drag the bait up but no luck. I still don't know if the Terminator Titanium Buzzbaits will catch fish or not because I refuse to buy another one.
I have a terminal tackle plano that weighs probably 15lbs with all the different tungsten, brass and Gamakatsu hooks and junk. It is one of those specially designed for terminal tackle with all the different little slots for all the different size sinkers and hooks. And for those that know my tackle, you know it is a small bait and tackle shop that I carry around. Not once but TWICE, I have been tieing on and had that plano balancing on top of my tacke box only to KNOCK IT OVER IN THE BOTTOM OF THE BOAT. If you want to kill a couple of hours a night sorting terminal tackle in the hotel room trying to get it all back where it goes give this a try TWICE. My buddy Chunknwind was with me both times and was laughing his butt off the first time when I did it and pretty much scooped it up with my hands and dumped it in a bag to take back to the room. Then he realized at how much time it was going to take for me to organize all my junk and stopped laughing. It literally took both of us a couple of hours sorting 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 1/2, 1, 1 1/2 oz tungstens and 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, 4/0, 5/0 offset and varius worm hooks plus all my beads, rattles, and other stuff
