Both teams acted like thugs for a few minutes. No way Cousins threw a elbow with bad intentions. Ever see MMA elbows do a lot of damage. They were both wrestleing for the ball. Cards looked good from what I saw and gained my respect fully. GO CATS

Swopshire's knee to the head was on a seperate play, I think....not the same play where Cousins put elbow/forearm to head. Personally, I think it was more forearm...because had it been elbow, the recipient would have either been (1) lights out for awhile, or (2) split open. Cousins has some guns.
It's just rough and aggressive play...and I don't think any of them in red or in blue really had ill intentions with knees and elbows. Everyone was just emotional and getting after it hard.
While I think it was over-the-top yesterday in the early minutes, I really don't have a problem with physical and aggressive play as long as it's within reason. Let'em play, as long as it doesn't degrade beyond a little pushing and shoving into a street brawl.
Ask Bill Laimbeer if forearms and elbows are part of playing tough basketball. He was hated, but he had some rings....just saying. lol
I remember those Detroit Bad Boy days.. Mahorn was another that would thump down low. Rodman was just getting started and had no tats and no lip rings yet!

Nope - same play (see link). If they'd show this over and over then the stupid analyst at halftime may have been singing a different tune.

Ahhhh, I didn't realize that. The other YouTube video I saw of the knee ended right there. Thanks for the slo-mo video...
Yeah that sure puts a different twist on things doesn't it. It doesn't make any of it right but it does explain why Cousins was so fired up. Crap happens when your emotions are jacked up.
I agree with you 100%. Sorry to hear about your Mom. Prayers sent.
Thanks Ryan.
I've seen it about four or five times now on ESPN and they even broke it down step by step in super slow-mo. Unbiased opinion is the knee to the head was non-intentional and fairly low key. That MMA elbow to the neck was obviously intentional and alot more of a NCAA rule violation as it reads to players pushing and striking another player. Just M2Cents.

Watch that over and over and honestly tell yourself that was not only intentional but with anything on it at all. Who is diving on who to get the ball. A player has the right to defend hisself and the ball. I'd say it if the uniforms were switched. No way nice try does not compare. I also like how the UK fan that posted that stopped it on the second play to make it look like Swopshire was kneeing the tar out of Cousins.
There are several people on ESPN after watching this same play over and over said Cousins should have been given the Heeve Ho. As the rules read had they been enforced and wasn't Cousins would have been tossed. May very well not had one bit of difference in the outcome of the game and I'm not trying to go there, just giving my thoughts on this specific play.
Under that little slanted video look at some of the posted comments. Read ther very last one at the bottom of the page it's spot on. I'll have to retract one statement Brian is right that isn't a elbow per say but more of a forearm neck take down, however clear grounds for game expulsion.
I would hate Cousins if he weren't on my team, just like Larry Johnson and Carlos Williamson...
I think had that knee not been thrown Cousins would've been gone. I was in the garage watching the game by myself, so I get verbal...LOL!!! I threw out the Timberlake/Latner incident...LO and Behold Ricky P referenced it in his post game interview which was a grat interview. He outclassed Coach Cal big time in that one as Coach Cal out classed him in the pre game.
Real exhausting ball game. I talked to some folks that were at the game and they said both sides were thuggin it up to start with...
Got to be proud of both teams from KY.....Samuels will toughen up. I think this is one of those games that will. Defend a one/two punch in the paint like he had too and you'll have no choice but to toughen up.
I predict these 2 teams will meet again in the NCAA at some point. Ricky P was too cool at the lose. He's looking big picture.
Neither side could hit the red side of a blue barn behind the arc....
Glad it's over..
Mark, sorry to hear about your mama...
Billy
I saw the knee into Cousins before the forearm (was not an elbow)...not on Utube or on replay but during the actual game play...I don't know how anyone could have missed it. I was sure they were going to bench both players...in my opinion they should have...but in retrospect I will say this...the game should have been stopped by the refs in the first minute of the game and both coaches brought to center court and chastized to get their players under control or face ejection. I am a big UK fan and the rivalry between these two schools is always a lot of fun...but allowing this rivalry to turn into a brawl (which was basically what the first half was) takes away from the game and brings discredit upon both schools. Just my opinion.
Great point Dave that would have been the best scenario. Have a time out charged to both teams when doing it. There were no innocent players in that baby UFC match....
