Re: Alabama Rig
I would like to see how many times you see KVD, Skeet reece, ike,or any other of the top pros for that matter using this bait in the elite series next year. If you see any of them using this rig it will be like seeing Santa come down the chimney on Christmas in July.....lol.
Now watch me eat my words and that will be the go to bait next year...
Chuck, you will see if conditions are right and the tournamen trails don't ban them. Dan Morehead just won the Everstart Series Championship on Ky Lake this weekend using it.

Re: Alabama Rig
The Cabin down by KY lake sells something very similar........22.95, I think.
BTW...everybody and their brother was throwing the **** thing. AND I don't believe they stuck any more fish than me :) :) .
Later,

Picture and details of how to make them would be nice. What material was used to make the framework? Thanks
From what I was told it is made from "Shark Wire"

You ever used this Tim.... It seems like it would wear you down throwing that rig all day long. It's just hard for me to see the top of the best using this yea it may work. But they do a lot of promotion on the water as far as rods reels line and baits that they use. Just can't see kvd promoting the new strike king Alabama rig with coffee scent... Or ike and the berkley alive havoc in Alabama rig. Maybe in videos or tricks and tactics videos just don't see the elite of the elite using during tournament coverage. Maybe just me but I don't see it. I know they are out their to win and win money but what ever happened to one pole one bait and just you and the fish. Next it will be tolling live bait with 6 rods and rod holders.

Re: Alabama Rig
I am going to try to rig one up myself, because I am curious how it will work locally, and also because I want to see how cumbersome it is to fish with. However, I feel it will be banned from tournaments when people completely stop fishing them due to everyone winning with these things and not giving the rest of the field, who do not want to fish this way, a chance.

Re: Alabama Rig
This rig should be outlawed in tournaments and in all states.

Re: Alabama Rig
I rigged one up for myself, with a 3/8oz head,(4) 1/8 oz swimbait heads, and (1) 1/4oz swimbait head along with the 5 swimbaits and I'm here to tell u, I believe I cracked somethimg in my wrist after making several casts! So, I went back to the drawing board, replacing all the swimbait heads with the weightless Moaner Hook in a 6/0 and it helped the weight of the rig tremendously, without effecting the actiom of the swimbaits! I fished it for muskie this past weekend on Cave Run with no luck, but WOW did it ever look good! Those of you that are thinkn about buyimg a knock off A-Rig, watch the size of the head...the lighter the better, I think! Since the weekend, I made a 1/4oz head, hoping that it will feel alot more comfortable to cast, the retrieve is easy! Just be careful of the knock offs because some of the.heads weigh more than than the entire original A-rig! Hope this helped

What kind of wire did you use, if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Alabama Rig
Just reg straight wire for spinnerbaits or inlines...seems to be more stiff than I would like!

Chuck, I have never thrown one. One thing you can bet though, most likely half of the Elite Series guys have tried them. When something new comes along, they tend to be on it before most people even know about it. I would be shocked if most of those guys haven't at least tried it on their home lake or during practice at an event.
I agree with you in that I don't like it for tournaments, but then again if I ran tournaments, there would be a lot of stuff gone real quick. I think technology is taking too much away from the sport myself.

Re: Alabama Rig
Watch the versus channel December 18 @ 1300 if you want to see a double. I'm just mad that I saw the line of people to this truck selling these rigs and I didn't know what the line was for till after the tournament. This guy sold 400 rigs @ $25.00 and then they were being resold for up to $100.00. Dan Morehead said that 95% of the fish wee being caught on this rig. I am glad Dan won but I want a do over:)

Re: Alabama Rig
I got mine in the mail a couple of days ago. I ordered two right at the beginning of the internet craze. I am going to try it tomorrow. Can't wait!
