Re: abu garcia or shimano??????
I'll add to my previous post.
I have read where some Abu's are still made in Sweeden and some in Korea. Might say on the box or real. I use primarily round level winds and have had both Shimano and Abu. I have had serious problems with the abu C3's from the 90's. Anti reverse went out on four out of six of them. Some of the handles are now wobbly. Still use all but one of them except one that could not be fixed.
The Shimano Cardiff is a real sweat real for about $120. Smoth as silk and solid as a rock. The 300 is great for Cats and stripers. The 200 is much lighter and great for castin 4" lures. The main body is cast and the side plates are pretty solid metal.
No problems from the drag with Abu though. I'll pass on a tip from APB.

Great drag parts for many reels, carbon fiber or something and they will talk to you on the phone. They are glad to answer any questions you may have.

I think I bought most of mine in bad years. I think Abu was better before and after I bought mine. The new ones seem pretty tight but way too expensive IMO.

Re: abu garcia or shimano??????
Neither, Use quantum or stay home!!! With one exception, Wave Spin reels make a great spinning reel for the money.

I used the johnny morris gold a lot last year. If the johnny morris II is the model im thinking of, its the same exact thing except for a carbon handle on the new one.
Anyways the reel was awesome, honestly smoother than my revo premier. It outcasted vientos, and curados easily. Was probably my favorite reel to use, but at one point in the season the reel suddenly just stopped casting. The spool wouldnt really spin right for some reason. Idk what caused it, but I took it back to bps and they gave me my money back no questions asked. Was a pleasure to deal with.
Honestly, it was one of my favorite reels ever. And I only paid 105 during the reel trade in.
One of the coolest looking reels too.

Shimano homers will groan about that, but I'd rather have a Johnny Morris signature series II than I would a Curado E or G. The main knock on the JM other than costmetic gripes, is part support. However, since they've not changed the guts in years, you should be able to find any of the typical parts of it that do wear for a few years anyway (and really, that's about how long for any reel now with the shorter product cycles we're seeing).
I should say that I've technically not used the signature series II (only the JM Gold, which is the same reel save cosmetics and the handle).
I would put the JM up with the Revo STX at least.
Re: abu garcia or shimano??????
I personally love my Revo's I have never used Shimano but I have friends that do and they won't fish with anything else plus both companies are giving $30.00 rebates
