Cedar Creek

Anybody know the latest? Are the courtesy docks accessible? Water Level? Fish on beds? Thinking of going this coming weekend. Thanks in advance.

I fished Fri and Sunday, water surface temp was 71 today, from what I can tell the bass are done spawning, at least most of them are. The lake is still 5-6' low. docks probably aren't usable, I was in my Hobie so it wasn't really an issue for me. I caught alot of buck bass but the big females eluded me the last couple days. I think they have pulled out and are recouping from the spawn. There was about 200+ boats out there today, so the fishing pressure is probably wearing on them too.

The courtesy docks are still out of the water....by a good bit. They currently are not accessible.

The dock at the dam ramp is nowhere near usable unless you plan to repel into your boat. Maybe the upcoming rain will help raise the water level. I sure hope they do not try this water drop experiment again........

The purpose of dropping the lake level was to kill off some of the grass growth, which it has succeeded. I'm sure this isn't going to be an annual thing but if the grass takes over again them I'm sure they will drop it again at some point. I'm glad they dropped it and knocked some of that grass down, it was really taking over.

The grass is what gives the bass protection and allows them to grow big. Gives them somewhere to escape the tremendous fishing pressure. If you do not like the grass, fish somewhere else. Guntersville is one of the premier bass fishing destinations in the country and guess what it is full of? Grass........

That's kind of what I was thinking. I wish they would cut down on the amount of boats! I went once last year during the week and it was crazy. I'd rather drive to cumberland anymore.

I'm very familiar with fishing grass, I fish Kissimmee, Harris chain, St. Clair, Santee and Guntersville... all full of grass. But for Cedar the grass was choking out the lake, I have full trust in what F&W is doing there and it was needed. its not about being able to "fish" the grass or not liking it. According to F&W the reduction in grass would help the bass feed on the sunfish, over the winter months, which use the grass as cover and actually help the bass population there. The move was needed and in the long run will help the bass there, the grass isn't dead and will be back to full force before long.

Was there sunday saw no signs of the spawn no beds or any fry I know all the fish do not spawn at the same time so does anyone know for sure if they have spawned yet water temp just got right ? Thanks

It was my understanding the purpose of dropping the lake was to thin the bluegill population. They were hiding in the grass. Lower water level gave them less hiding places. They became more easy to become eaten by other fish. When the bluegill population is in balance they grow large. When the population is to large they become smaller in size...in essence lowering the water was an effort to increase the size of bluegill in the lake. The lake is suppose to return to normal level once KDFW decide the bluegill population is at the desired target.

Guess I should have looked at your avatar before posting my previous reply! LOL. I also trust F&W. I am guessing they did not anticipate the low rain totals we have had this spring and thought the lake would fill back up sooner. Time will tell what effect the drawdown will have on fishing. Cedar Creek sure gets hammered these days. Got there around 9:00 am Saturday and people were already parking in the grass at the dam. I heard there were at least two tournaments going on.

LOL, all good. here is the press release KDFWR released about it. They did this back in 2007 also.
