Wilgreen jr.open bass tournament
Wilgreen jr. open is May 6th. Fishing should be good this year. This is the 7th anniversary.
Last year we gave away over $5000.00 in cash and prizes to youngsters 8 to 18.
Everyone attending recieves a "goodie" bag with assorted tackle, and there is a drawing after weigh in for sponsor gifts and donations.
I'm needing boaters to guide juniors for the day if anyone is intrested. As tradition goes we will feed you on the lake.
Ky. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife will be there again this year to help out and show their support.
Lots of raffles for a chance at some good stuff.
$20 entry for juniors and must have a waivier signed by parent or guardian. Pre-registration please this year. Early entries are available at Wilgreen Dock. Fri. nt. 6pm.-8pm. is pre-registration at Wilgreen.
In case you don't know Wilgreen is an idle speed only lake and makes for a perfect location.
Special thanks to all who sponsor and lend a hand to make this possible.
Please help us make this year special for all.

I agree...it is a great experience and a fun time. Unfortunately, I will not be there this year due to that date being my daughter's 8'th birthday. I encourage everyone to try to attend. Rex and the gang put on a class event. Everything is handled very professionally while keeping the event casual and fun. The older "kids" get into the competition of the tourney and the young'uns love getting out in the boat, some for the first time. Last year I took a 7 yr old and his dad and we spent the whole day riding around because the boy thought that "that spot over there looks "fishier" than this one"!!! It was his first time in a boat.

Do you all do anything to promote this? I know when I was younger I do not remember anything like the Jr. Bassmasters, which I would have loved to be involved in. You should supply schools, high-schools, with papers or pamplets. It would be cool if highschools had teams. I know Trinity has a fishing club, maybe st. x? but I know DeSales didn't, I tried starting one but it did not work out!
If there is anything else you all do, function wise, let me know because our team is looking for oppurtunities to get the youth involved in fishing. Considering only a few members have boats, it would be tough to be a boater in the tournaments, but anything else just let us know.

Thanks for the insight Eric. We promote localy.
My biggest problem is making sure I have enough boats to handle the kids.
Believe it or not for some this is the only time they fish and others are avid fishermen like us.
We have been doing this for seven years and it's always a challenge to pull it off smoothly. Why, one year I even forgot to give out the trophies. Had to do it the following year but managed to get them to the right yongsters.
It's great to watch these kids grow up and begin to win tournaments.
We have 5 former jr. anglers fishing BFL this year and doing well. One is even leading the points on the non-boater side.
I know some of, and have fished with the Ky. team and of course I know the EKU team. So, it's good to talk to one of the UL team. We are a great sport and I think on the brink of becoming a collegant sport. So I believe you young men are pioneers to our sport. So a lot is riding on your shoulders to po-tray a good example.
Keep up the good works and I wish all our Ky teams luck in their tournaments.
