New Board Format Question
On the old board I could turn my computer off at night and when I came back up the next day and went to Fishin.com all of my settings would be the same as the day (time) before. I bookmark the KY Discussion board but now when I come back to it for the first time after the computer was shut down I have to redo my selections, i.e., CHOOSE VIEW, THREADED OR COLLAPSED, LINIAR MODE, etc. Once I set them they stay as long as the computer is on, whether I am going as as guest or signed in a Grumpy, until I turn th computer off. I have my securtiy settings to ACCEPT ALL COOKIES from Fishin.com and apparently they are being accepted but don't stay after I shut the computer down.
Is anyone else having this problem or is it normal? Or, is there a way to fix the board OR MY SECURITY SETTINGS so I don't have to make all my selections everyday (other than leaving the computer on all the time)?
Thanks,
Grumpy
RE: New Board Format Question
I have a board setting as follows:
"Use fully threaded listing as the default" It is set to on.
Is that what you are talking about, the board shows in expanded threadeg view when you turn your computer back on?
You don't run some sort of cookie cleanup or internet cache cleanup program at night do you?
Any body else have any ideas.
RE: New Board Format Question
I just set board to collapsed mode, classic and rebooted and it stayed the same after rebooting.
Not what is sure what is going on Grumpy. I'm thing cookie related because that is what saves the settings, I think.
Does your firewall or anti virus program have some sort of cookie cleanup thing?
RE: New Board Format Question
Thanks Peter.
Yes, that is what I am talking about (I THINK)!! If you have it set as "fully threaded listing as default" that is probably why it happens. No I don't have a cookie cleaner, I have to do it with a program but even so, in the past, it didn't clean Fishin.com cookies because I have the settings to accept cookies from Fishin.com. I don't have any problem with other sites coming back the same after I have turned off the computer. If this is normal, I can live with it, it is just different and that is why I was asking.
I would still like to know if others are getting the same thing--HELLO OUT THERE--please respond.
BTW, thanks to Danny's help I now have the liniar mode set and see the threads the way I like them.

RE: New Board Format Question
Peter,
We must have been posting at the same time. After I saw that you had changed the settings I turned the computer off and restarted. Nothing has changed for me (meaning that it all changed back), I had to reset my preferences. No big deal, I can do it, as I said, it was just different and that is why I was asking.
Thanks again for trying to make the board right for all of us. I think I can speak for MOST of the people when I say I appreciate your hard work and this great site.
Grumpy.
RE: New Board Format Question
Hey Grumpy,
I leave mine showing the threaded look, but just change to the linear mode if I want to read a long thread and only see the last four or five.
One thing I noticed when I did my user preferences, I had to make sure and hit submit, otherwise they do not stick. I wonder if that could have anything to do with it? Just wondering.

RE: New Board Format Question
I didn't change the setting.
Now I am confused. As a side note now that you mention it, I think I like viewing the board in collapsed mode (without the threads expanded). Seems to be a more efecient way to keep up with the board.
I can't determine what "view linear mode" is.
RE: New Board Format Question
I like the collapsed mode because I can just look at the titles FAST and then opem amy threads I want to read more of. In the expanded threads there is too much misc. BS filling up the screen. The liniar mode just keeps all the messages in numerical order regardless which message they were posted in reply to but it does say "In reply to XX".
Hey Danny, you said: "when I did my user preferences, I had to make sure and hit submit, otherwise they do not stick" but I am not sure what you are talking about. When I set my user preferences there is a button at the bottom for UPDATE but even so the user preferences don't say anything about viewing modes THAT I CAN SEE. Are you talking about something on the main KY Discussion Board page or something after you log in and set you preferences?
Thanks to all, we will all figure it out before too long, just have to keep at it.

RE: New Board Format Question
Linear mode = posts are listed in order they were made
Thread mode = posts are listed as you see them in the thread
Example: If I am the 15th reply to a certain thread, but I reply to the 1st post ---> In linear mode my post will be at the very bottom. In thread mode my post will be the second one down
Grumpy, sent you an email... eom
