OK, Its caught by someone fishing for Bluegill, then it gets qualified for the books only for a year or two. When a long comes someone that claims it was only a 10 pounder stuffed with every splitshot and gravel that they could shove down its throat. Then its yanked from the books;) lol. But it would be nice, I just hate it for the people that break the records, cause their is always that crowd that has to scrutinize and cast doubt on the situation. But the record fish are out there swimmin and eatin every day. Just not tuggin on any lines yet...
Elnut will snag it while he's gar fishing.

It's easier to let the cat out of the bag than put it back in

Even better I'll catch it while learning float n fly from elnut using the famous billy elkins fnf jigs. By the way how do I get a hold of some those billy. LOL
Mudhole ? Your funny dude...not!
It'll be caught by me }(
Ideally I hope its caught by a bass fisherman fishing for big bass, I don't think it will. I think it will be caught by someone trolling for Stripers, Walleye or Musky. Someone geared up with heavy equipment and terminal tackle to handle the big fish.
As far as location, I think it will be from a central Tn. lake, Dale or Center Hill would be at the top of my list. There are lakes in KY that could produce a record smallie, like Laurel Lake. That area of KY has produced some big fish over the years. KY Lake is definately not out of the question either!
I think the next record will come from Dale Hollow. The only thing is you would think you would hear of more 8 and 9 pound smallmouth if Dale Hollow has the potential to have a 12 lbder. i don't hear of many 7, 8's and 9's being taken out of Dale hollow. Trust me if I catch an 8 or 9 lb smallie this winter all of you will know about it.
Look out BassPro and credit card for I am leaving Boonville and driving straight to the BassPro in Jeffersonville to add to my fishing supplies. I have striper stuff and bass stuff now I must outfit my boat and garage with Gar stuff. Anybody got any suggestions on what I need to purchase to be the best Darn Gar fisherman on the planet so I am assured of not making Billy a liar??? If I did snag the big girl Gar fishing, I sure hope I am by myself for that story will not be told.
In all seriousness, I think the 12 pounder will be a female caught in December at Dale Hollow by a person trolling for Muskie. This will give the person a fighting chance with a heavy action rod and probably 14 or 17 lb test(a guess for I don't Muskie fish, unless Billy says that I caught her this way then I will be giving up the Gar fishing). This person will be trolling a big 8" to 12" long minnow looking plug, most likely of Rainbow Trout color over the deep river channels. Now back to my Gar Fishing search on the internet.
I have to agree with Fishead, Laurel will get a lot more winter traffic this yr with the F-n-F fad. We should see some of the bigger fish beiong caught,
Billy
Will I have more notoriety and money by snagging the fish while Gar fishing or guiding the person that landed the fish?
If I snag it, I assure you nobody will know of this story. She will be caught correctly with the biggest name brand equipment in hopes of making the biggest amount of money in endorsements. I don't think Punisher Jigs or Elkins Jigs would be able to provide enough cash for me to say I was using there products. But between Quantum, G Loomis, Zoom, Trilene, Gamakatsu(sp), Tracker, Mercury(even if it does stink), Minn Kota, Striker Nets, and anything else should provide enough for me to get my house on Dale and then Guide for the rest of my life (me guide now thats funny right there, I don't care who you are if you don't think thats funny then.......)
If it is the latter, then Billy will be hiring lots of people to make the Elkins FNF Jig (Watch out Punisher, good thing Stephen Headrick has his store, guide business, and soon to be built hotel to keep him some cash flow for his FNF jig business will drop like a big busted old lady's boobs". Then my guide business will go thru the roof. Besides the normal full day, half day, night trips, tourney preps, I can offer a "Take you to the spot where the World Record was caught rate" SPLENDID!!
I talked to Fred McClintock last week about striper fishing the river and we got off on my favorite subject, winter time Dale Hollow fishing. He said he has never caught a Smallmouth over 6lb on the FNF and he has been doing it since the beginning and before. This shocked the crap out of me for I had 2 over 6 last December ( NO I AM NOT SAYING I AM BETTER THAN HIM, JUST LUCKY TO FIND 2 6 POUNDERS THAT WANTED TO COMMIT FISHICIDE THAT DAY) He actually was doing something similar in the Northeast back in the 1960's before migrating down here. I forget the original guy that gets the credit for inventing so to speak the FNF, but before he passed him and Fred fished together many times sorting of inventing the FNF type system together. He did say that he caught 2 over 8 lbs last winter both times trolling big huge muskie plugs targeting Muskie. When he targets BIG Smallies, he fishes deep 40-60 foot deep.
