Lake Cumberland FnF?
I am planning on heading to Cumberland Saturday to do a little float and fly fishing. I am wondering if you guys would reccomend the lower end of the lake or would I have just as much luck on the upper. I would rather not drive all the way down to the dam but I if it seems to better I guess I will. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I guess it really depends on conditions. Float and Fly works best when temps are below 50. Lots of reasons, mostly the fact that fish will suspend shallower at that temperature, rather than 30 to 50 feet deep.
If you want clear water the lower end would be best if you want some stained water then upper end. I would try to find out the surface temp as close to where you want to fish and if it is 49 go there.
Float and Fly will work in either place though, just may work better in cooler water.

I figured the water temp would play a facotr. I wanted to try it for a while and if no luck then try a different method. I found a site that has the water temp at lees ford but not at Jamestown. Anyone no a site to get the temp for around the dam?

If all you are going to do is float a fly then stay home. The fish on cumberland are not on it yet . JIG bite is red hot. Water temps 51- 53 degrees both ends of the lake as of Sunday....Tournament last sunday took 19 lbs and 12 oz to win. 19- 4 second and then 5 teams within 7 oz around 14 + lbs. 95 % of the teams that monied where throwing a jig....

Spotboy....not so fast! I agree the jig bite is strong, but the fnf is coming around!

Yes for maybe 1-2 hours first thing in the morning. Right now if you are not throwing a jig on Cumberland you are beat !!!!! Ask around find out how many fish are being caught on the fly. John and shannon Deevre weighed in 39 lbs in 2 sunday events and all they throw is a jig. Oh and by the way the day they had ONLY 18 lbs Flippin Drew had 25lbs all on a jig. The "fly" guys where already eating at sonny's barbecue by the time the weigh in started lol
WAIT your turn it is still a little early. Runs in cycle, jig bite then water temp drops another 5 degrees and BAM FLY TIME !!!

RE: Lake Cumberland FnF?
what kind of banks do they catch that kind of weight on?

RE: Lake Cumberland FnF?
Spotboy the guys you mentioned are all known to be jig fisherman, but that's not all they have been throwin here lately. The buggy whip "f-n-f" is workin, but the bluebird skies on tournament days haven't helped it a bit, oh by the way the jig works all winter to.

RE: Lake Cumberland FnF?
No need for a debate. I just really wanted my dad to get one on the float and fly since it is his first time. I was hooked a long time ago. I figured if we didn't get any hits after a while I would switch to the jig.

RE: Lake Cumberland FnF?
Either end is going to be about the same right now. What fly bite there is, is going to be within the first 2 hours of light, then is going to fade quickly. Fish the points and cuts and stay out of the sun. You might catch a few or several small fish, but don't expect a lot of fish or many (or any) big fish. It is still a little early this year. Big fish are still fairly deep.

Hard to believe the water is still that warm in the middle of December. That global warming stuff is a bunch of crap!!!!

You have differentiate whether you need to fill the live well for a check or just go fishing.
I would be throwing the fly all day on Cland. May not catch as many as those throwing a jig, but that's just me.
Look for some shade all day. Look for some shade all day. If it's cloudy then YEEHAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But don't let someone keep you from fishing the way you want to,
