lake cumbeland conditions
Heading down to Lake Cumberland 3-11, 3-12, and 3-13 need to get away from all this snow. Was wondering what the water is looking like (stained?). We will be pulling 4 boards for whatever will hit the bait and casting for smallies. Any help would greatlly appreciated! I was also wondering if that little diner in Jamestown is still there in the center of town, man that lady makes some mean pies! MMMM pie! I will give a full report on 3-14-08. Thank you in advance for any help.
Re: lake cumbeland conditions
I was on the lake on 3/6 and 3/7 before the snow hit. I was at the dam end on 3/6 and it was clear to mildly stained. On 3/7 I put in at Conley Bottoms and ran toward the dam about 10 miles or so and it was stained to muddy. Now when I heard our tournament was cancelled on Friday it was raining like cats and dogs. I am willing to bet that Cumberland will be pretty much stained to muddy everywhere now!
Sorry, can't answer you on the diner.
Re: lake cumbeland conditions
Thanks MarkW, doen't sound good but it is still better than working.
Re: lake cumbeland conditions
I was just there 3-7 to 3-10 and we were out with a guide in the creeks. The visablility in the water was about 6 inches, at least that's what the guide said and it looked pretty much on spot. We used boards and shinners both days and got 3 decent sized stripper (see my post for more on those) but not much else. I was camping in my RV below the dam at Keeland and we tried everywhere from the dam to the hatchery with no luck. I spoke with a guy who had been there 5 days last week and he said the only thing he saw come outta that area was 2 crappie. The visability below the dam pretty much sucked like the creeks, so I can't really give you anything worth wild. The guy did say that 2 weeks ago they were "KILLING THE SAUGER", but NOTHING since then. I don't mean to sound bleak, but if you have a boat I would hit the creeks with shinners and take what you can get. Good luck and hope you have better weather than we did, cause MAN WAS IT COLD!!!

Re: lake cumbeland conditions
Go to fomntt.com before you come. We are having our national championship on Cumberland the week before you come and there should be some fairly detailed reports up concerning the tourny and fishing patterns
Re: lake cumbeland conditions
This morning the water in the creeks around Conley Bottom had a very good color. Not clear, but a good dark green color. The stripers were biting very good too on small shiners. Don't buy large bait, the fish are feeding on very small threadfins. Go as far back in the creeks as you can til you run into water shallower than 15 ft. www.conleystriper.com

If you're talking about the one on the left just as you get to the town square, pretty sure that place is closed. At least it was when I was down there in December.
