complain about what?
Gee I felt so bad for this guy. He was complaining that they need to release fish over 5 lbs because they are two inches to small! Please make that dale slot good for cumberland also. Why dont anyone keep any fish under the slot?It will work even better if that is done.

Re: complain about what?
I guess the reason I don't keep any fish under the slot is because I don't feel like dealing with cleaning them. If I want fish to eat or put in the freezer I target crappie, bluegill, walleye and striper. But I think you're probably right, if more fish under the slot were harvested it would probably provide for a better quality of fhisery over all.
I can sort of relate to the guy being disgruntled with having to throw back 5lb fish...it seemed like forever and a day before I actually caught a smallmouth over 21" on Dale. It's hard to describe...and hard to believe when someone says: "Dag gone, another short 5lb fish". But when I finally did catch one over 21" I threw it back. Go figure.

Re: complain about what?
I grew up eating any legal size fish I caught. My first encounter with a catch-and-release fisherman was some guy cussing me out for keeping a bass, which to me at the time confirmed my suspicion that catch-and-release fishermen were mostly uppity jerks with more money than brains. Now, I understand that if everybody who caught a limit of bass kept it, most public lakes would quickly be decimated. I had the pleasure of fishing a private lake a couple times last year, where the landowner said it "needed to be thinned out," but sadly, I don't know of any public lakes that need thinning. So, when I see a 12-15" slot limit posted, to me it has always equated to a 15" size limit, which ends up meaning catch-and-release for largemouth. Preserving the fishery is the most important thing, and it never occurred to me that I might be helping it if I keep and eat a limit of "dinks."

Re: complain about what?
Cumberland's smallmouth fishery in in great shape. Don't mess with it. It hasen't made any impact on Dale Hollow whatsoever.
My 2 cents......

Re: complain about what?
No complaints on a slot limit from me either...sure don't see what it could hurt for building more trophy fish into the population. It sure seems to me like it has benefited Dale Hollow, but I'm no expert. Of course, I don't keep bass for the table, but that's another argument entirely.
