Help with estimating a fish weight???
I fished Cedar Creek last night and caught several. I landed a large mouth that was real nice. It measured 23 3/4" long and had a girth of 17 1/2". My berkley scale was dead...need to keep some extra battries in the boat. I really don't know how much it weighed but it was a real pretty fish. From looking and feeling of it I would think 7lbs or more but I really dont know.
Re: Help with estimating a fish weight???
Id say a solid 8 pounder!!!!!!Good catch..
Re: Help with estimating a fish weight???
I think the formula is pretty accurate at any time of the season other than the prespawn-spawn time.((Girth x Girth) x Length) / 800 = weight
Calculations come up with a 9.09 lbs. Even during the spawn it's only off by 4-5 ounces.
Re: Help with estimating a fish weight???
You can say anything you want, you caught it... Nice fish. I have seen 18" be 3lbs 20" 4lbs when they get over that I think its all about the girth. I have a fish that is 24" and only weighed 6.4lbs. post spawner. If I can remember I will measure the girth. Still a great fish..
Re: Help with estimating a fish weight???
A lot of people use the calculations bassman is talking about. I would guess that fish at 7 and change...
Several years ago my wife caught a real hawg in Mexico (Lake Huites). My digital scales read 8.4. When we returned to the lodge that night they used the calculations bassman mentioned. They were telling everyone that her fish was over 11. IMO, they were just trying to get everyone pumped up and that they might jack an 11+ the next day.
Re: Help with estimating a fish weight???
According to the Bass Weight Calculator from Bass Pro Shops a Bass that is 23.75 inches long with a girth of 17.5 would weigh 8.23 pounds.
Grumpy
Re: Help with estimating a fish weight???
There is a fish weight calculator out there that you can put in your length and girth and type and see what it weighs.... it showed 9.0 lbs.
Re: Help with estimating a fish weight???
About an 8lber, that's a dude, good job.
Re: Help with estimating a fish weight???
I googled "bass weight calculator" and did the calculations. There is no way this is correct. Fishing in tournaments and seeing fish being weighed, there is not a chance that it even is close. Maybe my club needs a new scale. The girth thing might be throwing me off too.
Re: Help with estimating a fish weight???
the question is....is this brute still swimming?
Re: Help with estimating a fish weight???
