Re: Topwater frog question
I rig them the same way as you. What kind of hook are you using I like using a heavier hook like a Owner or a heavy Gammy style hook that seems to keep it straight for me also put a glass bead in front it will give the frog more action and noise when twitchin threw the thick stuff. I also like the Stanley ribbits, Gamberler toads, and strike king rage.
Re: Topwater frog question
use a 5/0 gammy...bring the hook point between the legs and skin hook the back. the hook will act as a keel of sorts.
Re: Topwater frog question
Might even try a weighted hook for more of a keel effect.
Re: Topwater frog question
My question id this, i throw the horny toad (soft plastic) with a 2/0 or 3/0 hook txs style. Well it seems like 50% of the time my frog is upside down when i retrieve it back. I love throwing this and have caught tons of fish. Would it help to put in a swivel with a leader to help? Or maybe something im doing wrong, the hook comes out the bottom and skin hook through the top. Also any other top water frogs u guys like?? Thanks for the help.
I like the Horny Toad the best when it comes to the solid baits. The Spro frogs are my favorite of the hollow type frogs.
When I use the Horny Toads I haven't noticed any problems with the hook-ups in relation to the position of the hook, have you?
Re: Topwater frog question
Take a look into the jymsu frogs.......go to jymsubassbaits.com......they have got a very nice quality frog, actually a couple different types!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Topwater frog question
Thanks for the info fellas, i'm forsure going to try and use a weighted hook. By the way i've been using a ewg gam. 2/0 or 3/0 hook. I think im going the try a larger hook as well. This site is very valuable.......later
Re: Topwater frog question
I normally throw a Spros, but have you tried maybe to tie in a swivel in front of it. I know that more breaks in your line = better the chances of a line break. I have done that on a spinning outfit and it worked for me. Maybe, also try using a bigger 5/0 hook, more weight. It's just an idea.
Re: Topwater frog question
Really, all you need to do is clamp a split shot on the hook...that oughta take care of it.
Re: Topwater frog question
I usually throw them rigged with a weedless swimming jig. Big bass love em during the summer!
Re: Topwater frog question
Man, I need to invest in some frogs this spring!!!
