Spring Musky

OK . I am a Bass fisherman from wayyyyy back. I got the Musky bug last year and have loaded up on the right gear. Rods, reels and lures. I now have a large problem. The lures I have for the most part are huge and I am unable to find a proper way to manage them like you would bass lures in a large tackle bag or box. I have tried a lot of different options with no luck so far.
What do you Musky guys use? I thought about everything from star foam coolers to big plastic ammo boxes. Does any company make such an thing that can handle numbers of 13 inch lures?
Also any tips on spring Musky on Green river?

The guys that I know that fish for muskys carry most of their baits in Home Depot 5 gallon or bigger plastic buckets with lids. They make a series of notches on the top to hang by the rear hook. By storing them this way it gives the baits ample room to dry out completely.

might try looking at some saltwater/offshore tackle storage systems.
musky on green seem to like luckycraft crankbaits pretty good....haha.. never fails throw a $2 bait and nothing, pick up a $15+ bait and something with teeth latches on.

I have a friend who does a lot of pier fishing. He has what looks like a little taller five gallon plastic bucket, with a seat on it. Inside there are rings of styrofoam like material velcro-ed to the sides. He has set up these foam rings so he can hook unused lures and let them hang. The rings are spaced so the hanging lures do not interfere with one another. Really clever, and it works well. The bucket of course floats, so as not to sink away, and gilled fish can be carried away with no one knowing what he caught. Of course your muskys will best be shown off on a stringer over your back.

Lakewood makes musky boxes as does dunwright.... I have a Special mate that hangs 45 lures and also a bucket with pvc tubes for my bulldawgs and other large plastics. Plano boxes and tackle bags. I have owned them all, lakewoods, dunwrights, five gallon buckets. Even owned Brickers box, which is the second best choice in my opionion. I still have a few of those full of cranks.

It's not a bad box for the money. The lakewoods as mentioned above are very nice as well.

As far as tips for Green in the spring, the best tip I can give is patience! Besides that, like the guy above mentioned, don't throw the huge baits in the spring. Down size and fish slow.

what about one 46in or bigger is it catch, picture,and release or does it go on the wall.;)

a 46 out of green isnt that uncommon....caught one last year and she tasted wonderful.....i usually keep one or two during the winter months to eat....theyre a lot of fun to catch and even better to eat out of the cold water

bps has a nice musky box, well i dont know how big or anything but it looks pretty nice, and everyone, release your fish, let em get bigger so ill have a better chance of catchin one this year:D
