Hybrids/Whites going yet?
Hey guys-
Just wondering if anyone has gotten into the hybrids or whites yet? I know the water temps are getting to the point were they should be heading up the tributaries. Looking to give it a shot this next week, any help would be appreciated. Looking to go either at Barren, Nolin, or Rough if anyone of those places is producing. Thanks in advance!

I don't know about these lakes but I was at Taylorsville weds and ran into a guy that had been fishing the headwaters above Van Buren as he was taking his boat out and he said that he got into the whites pretty good , said he caught over a hundred. I wasn't fishing at the time.
Re: Hybrids/Whites going yet?
I went last week and caught one white and several crappie, then my friend went Weds afternoon and he said they were starting up. He was on the Dix River (headwaters of Herrington). He caught 30 or more in about an hour...but it took him a while to find them. I'm going next Thursday if I can get away with it. Hopefully I won't be too late!
Hope this cool weather won't drop the water temps too much.

That brings back some bad memories for me. About three years ago I read an article about the hybrid and white spawn at Taylorsville lake and how good it was supposed to be. Well, I got some guys together and we went up there. We put in at Van Buren and headed up stream. It was one of the most miserable fishing days I've yet to experience! Cold, wet, no fish anywhere to be found, rain, rain, rain....and repeat. I'm sure it was just a bad day, but it shut me off from making the trip again. I'm sure they are in there, it's just too far for me to take the chance.

I heard from a realiable source that the whites are going crazy on the lower section of the Cumberland River. Anywhere you can find a creek coming into the river, they are there. I'm looking to go this Tues. Looking forward to it.

They are staging right now. They are in the upper ends of the reservoirs getting ready to run into the rivers and streams where there is running water. If you can go when the weather is right and you are in the right area you can catch a bunch. If the weather isn't right you will get skunked. I went two weeks ago and caught a few. The water temp had risen to about 53 or 54 degrees and that is when they get active. Not sure what the water temp is right now. The temp will rise quicker in the headwater areas than in the lake. If it drops down in the 40's they won't hit much.
Re: Hybrids/Whites going yet?
We went today to T-vill to find the White Bass. And got skunked. Water was 56-57 on the main lake, but salt river was 54. Was muddy but not like chocolate milk. Didn't see anyone else catch anything. We went past the bridge, but not too far past (maybe 1/4 mile).
Guy at the ramp says we missed the run weeks ago.
We have only done this once before a few years ago...so what gives? Just a bad day or have they already run. Once they stage and run how long does that last? I get conflicting info on what temp triggers it. How far up do they go?

I disagree with the guy at the ramp. The white bass don't spawn until it gets close to 60 degrees. They stage in the backwater areas before they move up into the current areas to spawn though and if you can find out where they are staging you can catch them if the water is warm enough, usually around 54 degrees. Much lower than that and they won't feed much. The guy at the ramp is probably talking about someone who caught a bunch when they were staging. But the run is just starting when they are staging. When they are spawning you need to get to the riffle areas. They spawn right in the current where it gets shallow. Usually just below the riffles. They are normally in the riffles between about the 7th of April until around the 21st or so. They will usually stage during mid to late March. Don't give up. It takes a while to figure them out.
Re: Hybrids/Whites going yet?
I wouldn't believe that they have already spawned at T-Ville, seems a little early to me. Jusy my 2 cents!

Re: Hybrids/Whites going yet?
Anyone heard if the whites are going at Nolin or Barren yet (hybrids too at Barren)?

Re: Hybrids/Whites going yet?
Rich you will need to try Barren River go up to the Holland Bridge area, and there are a lot of fedder creeks that produce in that area also. If you wnat to go try there some weekend give me a PM and I will show you how to get there and some other good spots close to BG. Later
Re: Hybrids/Whites going yet?
well I have been on the whitebass I live not to far from taylorsville. last saturday was dead in the river, no you did not miss the run. 55 was the temp in the river. We have had a lot rain and the river is mud and more rain on the way. Went yesterday got 15 with a buddy. The run is not to far off. We have caught fish the last two weeks but its on and off there in the river one mintue and back to the lake. Nolin white bass were goin well last weekend and they could actually been on a run because females were a few miles up river. If you plan on goin to taylorsville sat well its alot of mud movin in the river its a mess however I know what to do to catch fish but can not tell my fishing buddy showed me yesterday and he might cut me out if I share his secerts.
