Re: Bass fishing at night
keep it simple at night. just two or three rods with the baits you plan on using so you dont stumble over anything and keep one box on the deck with your night baits so you dont have to scramble to find anything. usually i like black spinnerbaits with big colorado blades a big plastic worm, (any black plastic or jig will work if you get it in their face) black buzzbaits and i love the black jitterbug at night, just somethin about it bass have to have. . if its clear water a black hair jig like the punishers are awesome too. If you’re fishing docks, look for docks with lights on them. The bugs love the light, the bass love the bugs. You can go with heavier line at night too. The bass can’t see it so don’t be afraid to fish line heavier than normal. It’s a blast, you cannot beat night fishing. It’s sooo quiet out there, much cooler in the dog days of summer....ps don’t forget the bug spray, and a head lamp for your hat.
Re: Bass fishing at night
I would agree with stevens... nothing like fishing at night. Calm and relaxing.. no jet skis! I am a safety kind of guy, so I would suggest not to fish at night alone unless you have too.. Cell phone is a must. If you have a battery starter, you may want to take it. I have had to jump my main battery a few times cause the blackllight drain it after 10 or so hours. Better yet, I think you can plug the light dirrect to the charger. Trying it this year. Last but not least safety wise... life jacket when you are running. Who knows about logs or shallow areas when you are running at night. Have hit banks in the fog... My best luck has been a hair jig.. large worms and my fav is a black and red jig with rattles. Going to try buzz bait this year. Anyone interested in going at night at Barren in a few weeks.. let me know. Fish on! Fast Eddie
Re: Bass fishing at night
When are ya thinking about fishing Barren, there's a benefit night tourament coming up at the end of July and that why I'll like to learn something about fishing at night. I'll never fished a tourament and Just thinking about trying it out. I just don't know if I'll be able to hole up all night, but if there something on the end of that line I think it will wake a fellow up. :D
Re: Bass fishing at night
We've had really good luck this year on a big black tube, and also a black chatterbait. Biggest fish this year that we caught, 9.1, came on a chatterbait thrown at a boat dock. Like the other guys said earlier, spinnerbaits, big work, hair jib, etc. The key is black and a bulky. The old saying of "the darker the water, the darker the lure" holds true.

10,power worm a spinnerbait with a single colorado blade black,brown/orange skirt and a black buzzbait sometimes the ol black jitterbug can produce.
Re: Bass fishing at night
What everyone else said big worms and jigs. I have had good luck with sents at night.
Re: Bass fishing at night
i agree with everyone on here but my favorit color is black grape something about that purple at night the bass love it. i also like to use scent on all my baits at night. but one thing i dont do is use a black light just me i fill i do better with out a light.
Re: Bass fishing at night
Short arm spinnerbait in blk, red and purple. 1/2 oz #5 gold colorado.
Re: Bass fishing at night
I agree with everyone before me. Big jigs, big power worms (10"-12"), colorado blade spinnerbaits, and large crankbaits if you're fishing deep rock bluffs. A big Norman DD22 thrown parallel down banks like these is deadly at night.
Re: Bass fishing at night
My go-to baits for night-time bassing are black hair jigs, green pumpkin hair jigs, Sweet Beaver, and baby brush hawgs.
Guys wanting to do some night bass fishing but don't know anything about it. I'll got a black light and the blue line, so I can see it at night, but really don't know anything about how, what lurers, or what types of spots a fellow would fish any differant than fishing in the day. Any pointers? Ho Yeah I do understand the boat lights.
