Rod for Crank Baits
I am about to purchase a CU200E5 Shimano Curado; 5.01:1 ratio to use for strickly crank baits.
What size rod should I get; 6 1/2 feet or 7'?
I appreciate any and all suggestions and explanations. I would be willing to pay about $100-150 for the rod; I cannot go much above that so GLoomis is out for me probably.

Re: Rod for Crank Baits
Shimano is coming out with a strictly cranking rod called the Shimano Cumara Reaction. I would check into them. With Shimano's warranty, you can not beat there rod. Hands down the best company out there in rods. Here is a website you can look at the review on there. Not sure of the price, but it should be out by oct. Plus you can always search through tackletour.com and look at and compare rods.

Re: Rod for Crank Baits
BPS Crankin sticks, one of the best out there for the money, go with a 7ft or longer, I like 7.6.

Re: Rod for Crank Baits
I like the 6'6" 100% fiberglass rod. I have a couple different models and love them all.

Re: Rod for Crank Baits
I love my David Fritts glass/graphite combo's. Don't get me wrong, I would not trade my Shimano's but the Fritts is the first rod I pick up when I am cranking.

Re: Rod for Crank Baits
I have Shimano rods and love them and the warranty. I'd go with a 7' medium in the Compre or Crucial lines.

Re: Rod for Crank Baits
+1 on the BPS crankin stick. The action is a little fast I think but you can't beat it for the price. Perfect for me because I don't use cranks all the time. If you think you are going to throw cranks alot, maybe go with a more expensive rod. You can probably get a BPS crankin stick this winter for around $50. Normally run $60 I believe.

Ditto for the Shimano Crucial.

Re: Rod for Crank Baits
I like Shimano's Crucial a lot...I also like the BPS Crankin' stick...I have one of each. You can't go wrong with either one in my opnion and if I were you I'd go with the 7' model.

Re: Rod for Crank Baits
I have Crucials, Loomis and BPS. I don't like the hump handle on the BPS, it is not overly accurate and it not very sensitive. OK for the money but not my reco.
Between the Loomis and Crucial the loomis has a more moderate action but I'm not loosing any fish with the Crucial.
I have several 7MH Crucial crankbait models. Good for the Medium and bigger cranks. Throws rattletraps well too. You can work a DD22 with it but I tend to go with a Heavy power rod for DD22's. I have a like new 7MH for sale on another board for a good price if you have interest; just shoot me a PM.
The E5 should be a great cranking reel. I have three E7's and they are working out well.
