Cash for Clunkers
Here's my question well really a couple of questions. One, where is this money coming from? WE DON'T HAVE ANY. Next whom does this benefit other than the big three and the sub companies that feed off of them? Lastly, what is the economic toll from this and how does the bills get paid?
I'm so confused???

Re: Cash for Clunkers
My take is China is funding this...It benefits the few who could have left a situation with no car payment to having one, wait how is that a benefit?....
I still say give everyone that paid taxes a ratio of their taxes back (50%) and see what happens.
Bottom line for me is.... it's a gubment hand out for the car manufactures including the one company that these crooks own.

I'm not sure where the first part of the funding came from but I heard today the second part was being taken out of one of the energy bills that is proposed.
It is really just a stimlus, I think Geo broke it down in a post somewhere and said he thought it was a good plan (surprised me to hear that)
I guess if you were in the market or on the fringe because of price this just made it easier and don't forget to count the money people will be saving on fuel. It was reported today that 80 some percent of vehichles bought using the program got 25 mpg or better.
And before you say "the goverment is forcing these toy cars down our throats" just remember no one forced anyone to buy anything.

Re: Cash for Clunkers
Noone forced the losers who went into bad mortgage deals either. If I'm not mistaken alot of those deals were to good to pass up as well. Yep, I am negative beyond any reason when it comes to gubment handouts.

I was refering to the actual cars that have been purchased and are on the road, you know the sissy/toy cars :) that the rules encouraged people to buy. It was just a reply to something mhall said in another post.
But yeah people should live within their means.

I feel your pain...but it will be a cold day where the devil lives before I EVER purchase a foriegn truck...yea I know, produced, made, built in Georgetown or where ever, I don't care, it's Ford and Chevy (preferably Chevy) for me or I'll ride the bus! Come to think of it...I could park the truck, start riding the bus and use the money saved to rent a slip year round at Grider Hill for the Sea Ray...Hmmmmm.

Re: Cash for Clunkers
The thing that strikes me as a typical government run program is that fact that they (government) has no idea at this time how many clunkers have been traded ie...how much of the money already approved has actually been spent. There was absolutely nothing in the planning which would give the feds instant feedback on how much money is or was left in the pot. You would think that it would have been a requirement that when a clunker was traded that a phone call would have had to be made immediately to the feds so that they could track the money....and we are gonna let them run our health care system....???????

Yea good point, and running our health care would be no different, probably worse.

Re: Cash for Clunkers
I'm not too crazy about subsidizing car purchases with our money and getting people into debt, but it's really just another rebate program. I don't see how it's different than the countless other rebate programs.
Theoretically, the program would allow you to break even. When you buy a new car and drive it off the lot you lose $4500 in value, so you wouldn't be upside down on the loan if you got a rebate. Realistically, I'd say many dealers are either jacking up the prices, or refusing to give on prices, so most people gullible enough to buy a new car are still winding up owing more than the vehicle's worth.
I heard on the news the program had funding issues, and may not continue.
Anyone who supports government run healthcare is out of touch with reality. Try dealing with a government run agency and think about that experience. Here in Bowling Green, the auto licensing...uh system is a perfect example. Imagine that multiplied a thousand times over and you get the idea.

Jim,
I can't believe any working adult with half a brain can't see that. We have all dealt with and been disgusted by gubment and or huge corporations which makes it all the more difficult to try and digest the junk spewing from these crooks in Washington.
How many people have already felt like a number in our private healthcare system? Millions! Nothing is perfect...How many people have waited for weeks or months for a high level scan or procedure all the while knowing that you need the results for the doctors to compile info so you can get the needed surgery or treatments? It's nerve racking and taxing on your health. Now imagine some slack gubment minded worker being in charge of your life and not a private business! That alone should scare you because who can you complain too?
If the gubment had a decent track record I would entertain some of the thoughts but I know they are lying, distorting facts and pushing for more gubment control. If these goons are sucessful in passing the final bill on this then they have solidified millions of votes for the Libs. since IMO they are after votes from minorities and gubment teat addicts.

Re: Cash for Clunkers
Here's one for ya boys. Go on Youtube and look for Glenn Beck exposes Cash For Clunkers. It seems once you get on the Government website they have all your info and can and will hack your personal info off of your computer to access info. Just go watch it the video, it's down right Scary. Obama may be another Joseph Stalin. The big brother crap is getting truely alarming, people better wise up, this administration is CRAZY!
