Giant Rattlesnake...?

I was forwarded this email by a friend, just wanted to know if any on this board knows if this is one of those real picture/ fake story type things... or if this is factual and know of any other info on the matter...

A 97 lb Eastern Diamondback was found yesterday in Bourbon County , KY slithering down the Clintonville Rdwith Beckie Hatton in hot pursuit. When she caught up with it and realized thesize, she quickly called in the Clintonville Volunteer Fire Dept. The Chief said it the largest rattlesnake ever captured in KY. Thanks Beckie. 97 lb rattlesnake found in just northeast of Lexington
9 feet, 1 inch - 97 lbs. - Biggest rattler found since Bob Eads captured one in 1969 that measured 9 feet, 1 inch but only weighed 78 lbs.
This old guy was found inside a open water tanknear an abandoned chicken house

Great Link Geo! I sat and read the entire thing!

I got the same picture on an email too. Immediately thought it was a fake due to the date in the corner being snubbed out. Why would one do that if it were legit? Plus, I'd think it be ALL over the news and papers and I don't remember seeing anything. I hope it is legit. Either way, from KY or not, the saddest thing about it was that they killed it.

It was a fake story, real picture though. There was an article about it in the local paris paper a couple of weeks ago. I wish i could remember the details to share. I think i might still have a copy at home. If i find it i will report back.

Yep fake indeed I remember a snopes article or somethng along those lines debunking this story.

Photo is real but story is fake. The biologist for the KDFWR that is involved with insects and reptiles said it was a Western Diamondback Rattler that is not found in this state.

i read an article about it in the washington post and i cant find it now but the snake was captured it texas i beleive.

scary thought that they can actually grow to that size.

So does that mean that the record of the one that was 78# is still intact or is that made up as well?

the artcle the washing post had on this claims the snake and picture was real and some had stated the snake actually weighed in a little over a 100#'s.

im gonna keep searchin for the arcticle. but if the previous record was 78 than this one would top that by close to ten pounds

Do a Google search for 97 POUND RATTLESNAKE and you will find that the same snake/picture was found in at least eight different cities. I stopped looking after that.
