I like both of what you just mentioned. But my serious go to is topwater early and late or all day on cloudy day's. Then as the day progresses and we get some wind and make some chop on the top of the water, then my Spinnerbug and the jerkbait gets it's groove on, yea baby, I can't wait.
Mine has to be a Sammy 100 and a Spro Little John. Basically the same thing you guys said.
Come on Mark... pig n jig is my always bait never lay it down and you will catch some hawgs. That bait done one me 4 tournies in a row, with big fish twice.

Congratulations JimBo, dang four in a row, that's getting her done buddy. Owe I love that Jig bite and always will fish it, but when them rascals are looking up to feed I gotta get my topwater fix.
I heard through the vine you was on fire this year, keep it up!
I agree with you, October is usually a great month. I hope this year is no different, with all the rain and weird weather we've had this year,
My go to is always a Secret Weapon Lures BuzzRBait and quickstrike spinnerbait (blades depend on the current conditions). I usually stick with one color in the morning and one as the day goes on, and will switch blades to match changing conditions.
I'll also have a worm, and jig on deck too.
I was told this a few years ago as as far as i can tell it holds true. In the fall of the year the shad start gathering in schools and become the bass main meal. So i usually use lures that target from the top to about 5-10 foot down and have had great luck. Bass mainly are looking toward the surface for food. But not to say that they can not be caught on worms, jigs, etc. I just catch a lot more toward the surface than on the bottom. Good luck fall fishing everybody,jc
Oh forgot to list my favorite fall lures which are top water popper-1st--shad rap #5--2nd---spinnerbait--3rd
My best friend in Oct is the Jerk. If you knew my friends you'd really be confused to which friend I really meant. I preffer the Jerk bait over cover. I fish the Buck brush and the sloping banks at Dale alot.....so if it's not the Topwater in the morning or evening.....it's the jerk bait til my wrists fall off.
BIG crankabits; BIG spinnerbaits, and/or a Jig.
6 rods rigged with Pop R, 0-2' deep crankbait, 2-4 feet deep crankbait, 4-6 feet deep crankbait, spinnerbait or swim bait and texas rigged BIG 10 or 12" Worm for me. Crankbaits either Norman or Lucky Craft, Powerbait worms or Charmer worms, Hook Some Bass Spinnerbaits to be more precise.
3 rods. 1/4 Buzzbait, 1/4 Jig, and 200 series Bandit
Best bait of all is live crawdads at Barren fishing for football spotted bass.
