45lb SACK AT KY LAKE.......
DRUM, Made you Look, 45lb sack of Drum with almost 2 limits and 2 lost fish on Sunday. Another 22lb Drum caught on Saturday with a couple more small one's. Anyone wanting to know the pattern on the Drum bite just PM me and I will tell you. Never mind, with the way fishing was the past few days, if you are like me, you did not mind the Drum bite because the Greenfish and Brownfish were not biting in my boat. Drum pattern is Silver and Black Red Eye Shads in 12 foot of water off the secondary points back in the bays. Landed 4 Drum in 4 cast at one time, 9 within an hour or so and lost another couple. First time in my life that I PATTERNED the Drum bite. For Bass fishing, had 8 keepers in 3 days, some small fish, several White's, Drum, and Shad caught (yes Shad caught including the monster 12 incher that hit Sunday morning). Shad in the backs of the pockets but not many Bass were in the mix. Worst trip I ever had to the Twins but what do you expect with the water temps dropping 7-10 degrees in the last week. Mornings had FROST up to 1/4 inch on the boat and mid 30's for temps, highs never hit 60 since Friday, Monster Cold Front. If you caught them then you are better than me and I tried everything in my box from Cranks, Traps, Spinnerbaits, T Rig, C Rig, jigs, swimbaits, Scrounger, Buzzbait, Zara Spooks, Pop R's you name it, if I had it, I tried it. Got skunked this morning for my first day ever of not catching a Bass on Ky and Barkley. Had one straighten the hook out on my jig and another hit my C Rig but I never got a hook in her. My buddy, 3sons, landed a Monster 8 incher that had him beat me in the Bass Catching numbers category for the weekend trip by 1. He also had the biggest fish of the weekend, 22lb Drum, but I think I got him on total fish caught if you include the Drum, Shad and White Bass. Since I need these to count in the total, I will use my Wife's scoring system, which says if it has 2 eyes and a set of gills then it counts as 1. I need all the help I can get on this trip. Tough fishing at the twins this weekend. Never patterned anything but the Drum and if not for the excellent spring that I had down there would be wondering if there were any Greenfish or Brownfish swimming in the water. Caught fish from Main Lake ledges, to ledges and humps in the Bays, shallow-med-deep in the bays. All little fish except for the 8 or so keepers with biggest of the weekend being 3 1/2 pounds. Good Luck fishing thru cold fronts like this one that just past. Elnut
Re: 45lb SACK AT KY LAKE.......
I will raise your drum pattern and bet you one stripe pattern!! LOL
Dont feel bad. I was there saturday and only managed one keeper. 2.48lbs! Fished Sugar most of the day as the "horses" were walking pretty good on the main lake by dinner. Only caught 7 total. But did manage to determine that the stripe loved a x-calibur 1/2 ounce trap in goldish brown/black. If i could have took them to the scales I would have managed a nice check. Got a two day tourney Saturday. :( Think i might just bank fish!!!!!!
Re: 45lb SACK AT KY LAKE.......
Yeap, was there this weekend also. Fished KY Fri and Barkley Sat and Sun (until about noon). Worst trip ever down there. I didn't land one keeper, heck I don't even have a good story about one getting off at the boat. Caught some dinks all 3 days, but not many. My partner did land a 4lber on Barkley on the second day, so I can say I netted a keeper. The other two boats with us did a little better, I think they had 5 or 6 keepers between 4 people. If anybody tore it up down there this weekend, please do tell for I am a humbled fisherman and will take all pointers for future fall cold fronts.:)
Re: 45lb SACK AT KY LAKE.......
me and george got a few keepers a day. not many. but i did get a 3+ lber every day of the 3 days we were there. i heard there was a great buzzbait bite sunday morning in sugar though.
Re: 45lb SACK AT KY LAKE.......
At least I know I'm not the only one struggling on the big lakes right now. I'm not sure why, but at least for me the N. end of the lake has turned really tough. I've been catching a few fish, but very few keepers and certainly not any pattern to the catches.
I know the winner of the BFL regional caught about 50 lbs., but he was running about 90 miles one way.
My best bite has been on crankbaits and spoons in the bays with the boat in about 10-12' and throwing in to 4-6'. But like I said "best" is pretty relative!!
UMMMMMMM sO YOU DO FISH FOR OTHER FISH --LOL:D
First of all, GOOD TO SEE YOU HERE AGAIN BIGGW, hope your health is getting better and you are on Cedar Creek every day of the week. I was fishing for ANY fish that would bite come Sunday. Never been "Bass" fishing in all my life and catch pretty much every other species except Bass. I was even glad to catch the 12" Gizzard Shad that busted my trap. I will say that I got a good on over Geobasser. To expand on what Embry posted above about a good "Buzzbait" bite in Sugar Sunday morning. Embry and Geo was fishing in the back of Sugar and I was fishing with 3sons around the ramp in the back of Sugar. 3sons catches a small keeper off the ramp on a jig about 3 cast off the ramp and the fish start busting shad behind us. I am throwing a Buzzbait thru the school and get a couple to blow up on it but no hook ups. About that time George calls me and I tell him we have 8 on the Buzzbait in the back of the pocket and 1 on the jig. Fully knowing George would get off the phone and start tieing on every buzzbait that he owns. I told 3sons as my phone was ringing that I was going to get one on George then tell him the truth later on that night as he was driving back home. We fished for a little while longer and then Geo and Embry come idleing in and I told them that they just missed it for the shad had just went down and the bust had stopped. I made a cast towards George's boat with my buzzbait to let him see which one I had tied on, just to make it more believable. We went on fishing then that afternoon we see Geo and Embry coming toward us again and George started with the fact that he was the worst fisherman on earth and could not get a bite on the buzzbait and I could not stand it anymore and told him the truth. I have know Geo for a couple of years and this is the first time that I pulled his leg like that but Embry had never met me before but he knew better. The second I told George the truth, Embry said I told you he was full of crap. Geo was ready to come in my boat. He was cussing me, thought he was the worlds worst fisherman, and could not believe that I did that to him. Could not resist the moment especially with as bad a fishing was, we had to have something to laugh at. To that point, the only good fishing thing was watching 3sons work that 22lb Drum around the big motor as I swung the boat 3 times to help him out and our sunday Drum bite had not turned on yet. Nasty slimy stinky fish those Drum are. Bad part was they were hitting so hard that they were taking both sets of trebles of the Trap in their mouth. Too slimy to hold and get your trap out, mouth is not that bid to begin with and I had to perform oral surgery on one of them just to get my Red Eye Shad back. Good time with 3sons, Geo, Embry, even met Roadrunner (again) and his buddy's when they came from their houseboat on North Ky over to Poplar Creek Lodge on North Barkley to say hello Friday night. Plus saw Slowride at the ramp Sunday afternoon as we were taking out. Funny how you can travel 225 miles one way and meet guys from this board. Anyways, good to hear from you Biggw and I hope you are feeling much better. I had one of your buddy's PM me with which hospital you were staying in for I planned on coming over the next day and ended up back in UK that night for a couple of days. When I got out it was posted you had been released. Take it easy and get better every day. Elnut

Re: 45lb SACK AT KY LAKE.......
hey guys....i fished ky sat and sunday morning with my friend mattbay and another friend. they were in the front and i was in the back. this was our first trip ever to ky lake. we put in at ky dam village and fished around there. i only managed a 10lb drum on sunday morning caught on a thin N. matt bay got 9 greenies and a stripe on sat. about 3-4 keepers. the other guy caught 5 lgmouth sat also. no keepers. caught 3-4 LM on sunday morn. water temp was 59 -60 degrees on main lake and 3-5 degree cooler in back of the bays. huge schools of shad everywhere. all fish on sat caught in late afternoon after a brief shower. all were caught on DT-6,manns thin N and series 3 sexy shad.
mattbay caught a 20+ inch fish on sat that looked like a giant shad. i never thought they could grow that large. could that be right? it wasn't a drum.
