Re: Cumberland/wolf creek
Great report, I'm new to this Discussion board but love to see people reporting on Cumberland, both the river and the lake. I'm going down in a few weeks so hopefully will see much of the same action. What was the weather like on Sat. when you did so well on the bank by the dam.
Re: Cumberland/wolf creek
Good report and glad to know you were catching fish in the river. I shouldn't assume just cause the water is flowing hard down there that I can't catch any fish.
Re: Cumberland/wolf creek
Saturday was a little windy and mostly cloudy. Think the reason they bit better saturday than sunday was that the front was still working its way through the area saturday. Sunday was rough with bluebird skys
Re: Cumberland/wolf creek
The comments about the two guys catching all the striper at the base of the dam peaked my interest. That's the first time in years I've seen a post about striper in the tailrace at Wolf Creek Dam. Is that a regular thing or is there a special reason why they're there now? Does anyone think they'll be there this coming weekend?

stripers can be found at different places in the river you just have to search different spots because they are roaming all the time just following the food.
They can be one place today and gone tomorrow.
They were fun to catch!
Re: Cumberland/wolf creek
Stripes at the tailwaters huh, sweet. I hope they stay there for a couple more weeks till we get there. That would be a blast catching stripes in that fast water, what a fight!
I figured with the warmer water temps and all the high water we have had this year that the stripes would be up there. Good report!

first2fish-
I was going to ask you...were they right up as close as they could get to the generators when they were hooking into the stripers? Where was their boat positioned? Curious cause I am heading up there with some friends in a couple weeks with a boat and would love to get into some of those line sides! Thanks.

Re: Cumberland/wolf creek
I think they are up there as thick as they were because of the higher water temps caused by all the water being released from the lake to keep it at safe level. Normally there should not be bass, crappie etc up that close to the spillway from what i have been told because water was staying in the 50's in the past. The guys striper fishing were to the left of the gates out in the open area probably 20-30 feet from the dam casting in all directions. There is a wall to the left of the gates. They stayed to the left side of the wall. Water is to turbulant to fish in front of the gates in my opinion. Be careful because of the fast current and if i fished that close to the gates i would always wear a lifejacket. Good luck i hope you all catch a bunch. Let us know how you do. Later jc
Re: Cumberland/wolf creek
It is crazy the species that have migrated up the CR now that the water temps have crept up. You used to only see trout, skipjack, whites, walleye, and an occasional striper. Now, you got largemouth, smallmouth, lots of stripers, crappie, drum,......CRAZY!!!
Thanks for the info, I have fished up against that wall before, but that was back when the temps where cold. I know exactly where you are talking about. I'm going to stock up on white grubs and roadrunners (think I already have a bunch, but mostly for the other guys). I'll be giving a full report of the three day fishing trip to the CR. Going on Nov 18-21. Hope to knock em dead!

Re: Cumberland/wolf creek
i posted some pictures of the stripers and catfish that you saw us catch last saturday on the photo gallery. we caught 3 more on Sunday afternoon. 3 more trips last week only produced trout and a few small walleye but no more stripers.

whats the limit on stripes below the dam creel and size
