Flitterbait from Smacktackle.com
Smacktackle.com has donated several Flitterbaits to be given away in the door prizes at the Get Together next Friday night. Tuesday was the first opportunity that I had to use one of these baits, basically the Fly was ON and never could put it down, but there was a lull in the action so I tied it on. It is a cross between a Silver Buddy and a Rattle Trap. I have a history of catching or hooking a fish the first time I use a new type of bait and was explaining this history to 3sons as I tied on the Flitterbait. I make my first cast off a point and let the bait drop to the bottom and start working it like a silver buddy all the while still telling the history when it gets absolutely hammered. This fish is coming at the boat so fast that I can't get the line caught up quick enough and then when I do she is under the boat and SNAP breaks me off. First to admit hard to get used to fighting a big Smallie on a 6 1/2 foot spinning rod after fighting several on the buggy whip but this fish hammered this bait. I look at Mike and he has amazement in his eyes and I have the same in mine. Tied on another and fished it for a while more but never got another hit but if the first cast is any inclination, this new bait will catch fish. I plan on fishing it more when I get time and the FNF is not working. Bait will cast a country mile on a spinning rod with 6lb flourocarbon, has pretty good vibration and looks very lifelike when swimming. I would think you could hop it off the bottom like a Silver Buddy or get on some flats or round deep points and let it drop to the bottom then slow reel it just off bottom to success. Hope others that get these next week will catch a couple of them as well. elnut

Been fishing it a bit myself Elwood. They have a hit on their hands with this bait. It's very versatile.
It can be burned to the boat like a trap.
Bounced and Yo Yo'ed like a buddy on retrieve.
Slow rolled and everything in between.
Looks EXACTLY like a threadfin shad and can be casted a mile.
I can't wait to sling mine at the warm water discharge Whites, Hybrids and Stripers later this winter.
Guys this bait is awesome you aught to get you one, before everybody starts fishing them.
Re: Flitterbait from Smacktackle.com
I've been using this bait for a few months and I can tell you it flat catches everything that swims! I've even caught a few white bass on it from Cumberland. I hadn't caught a white bass there in 7 or 8 years. LOL. I've also caught largemouth, ky's, smallmouths, crappie, a small catfish, and some very nice stripers on it. Biggest fish so far is a 24.2 striper in the back of beaver creek. I always have one tied on at least one rod. I've been fishing the larger version for the past year or so. I've caught some nice stripers on it as well. The smaller version is a better all around bait and is good for stripers when they are keying on the small shad. The larger version is great in the spring and summer! I fish their shallow crankbaits as well. I've caught tons of fish in the jumps on them.

I enjoy reading your posts elnutsmalljaws. What color Flitterbait did you hook that monster on?

Black Back was the color. Looks like the real deal and pretty much my favorite color of all 6 that they have. The bait will cast a country mile on a spinning reel with 6lb Flouro. Going to try and cast it out, let is sink and then slow reel it just off the bottom on some deeper round points that usually hold some bigger fish next week at Dale. My guess with slow reeling it, the bite will be similar to a slow rolled spinnerbait at night, which is AWESOME. We will see because after that first cast, I know I am hooked.
Re: Flitterbait from Smacktackle.com
I have used it as well for stripers and it has worked when other baits won't. First cast out for me in the back of White Oak I caught a fish with it, I was really suprised to reel up a drum. I have neve caught a drum in Cumberland, it was a first for me. A few weeks later I was fishing white Oak around 3 boats all casting to the same school busting shad left and right. No one got a hit except me I landed 2 stripers with it and they absolutely would not touch anythig else I or the other guys were throwing. It does work for sure.
Works best for me on a Medium bass rod with 12 lb fireline and 12lb floro leader. The feel is much better to get correct speed to make bait flutter. Good luck to all that gets one.

I did not like your first answer because that would have meant having the record on but Operator Error messed that up. Love your second answer, thanks for changing my mind as to what it was.
Re: Flitterbait from Smacktackle.com

I was in Backwaters (in Lex) earlier and I heard a guy come in asking for them.
