Skeet Reese rods
Has anyone tried the new line of Skeet Reese rods from Wright / Mcgill ? I saw some at Gander Mnt but the all yellow coloring really threw me - kinda of weird for a rod . The orange Carrot Stix was bad enough . The prices were good but Cabelas recently had Kistler 7' LTA helium rods for $129 { sold out fast } and they had Berkley series one for less than $50 . Now Ill probably get grief from all the custom rod builders out there but we fish what we can afford and like .

I picked up two of the Tessera rods about a month ago. So far I really like them. I put two Citica's on a Jerk/Top Water and a Spinner/Worm rod.(fast tip) So far so good...

Re: Skeet Reese rods
I have not tried any yet, but I do build my own. I would not however knock the quality of the Series One. Berkley blanks are good blanks. They just skimp on their components a little. This in turns really sales the rod short of it's full potential.

Re: Skeet Reese rods
If they are the actual rods skeet uses they must cast like a whip! When you see him fishing he's always sling that rod like a whip, lokks really comfortable for cranking.......i want one.

Re: Skeet Reese rods
That's because it's bright ugly yellow! All else fails just stick it in the water and the fish will jump in the boat. For real now, for the money they are good rods. My partner switched to all skeet rods and loves them. I've used them a few times and they seem pretty good. Only one I question is the top water rod. It just first have enough backbone imo. It looks to be a medium at best. I'd be worried about breaking that one in some of the junk I fish.

Also I just called their customer service and they wanted me to pay shipping and handling plus thirty more dollars to get a new rod. Very poor customer care.

Re: Skeet Reese rods
my abu garcia vendetta pole broke over the weekend so I am in the process of shipping it back. They told me to cut it into pieces to ship back and just mark the spot where the pole broke so they could examine it.
Maybe you should ask them if you can break the pole apart to fit it in a box so long you mark where the original break occured.

Re: Skeet Reese rods
I have four of them and I like three of them. I accually took the bad one back. It was the shakey head spinning rod. The eye closest to the reel was WAY TOO small. I use the Johnny Morris spinning reel that has the big spool and it slapped the rod and would not cast. I took it back to BassPro and worked with the manager of the fishing department and he agreed with me and took it back. I got the BPS Carbonlite and it is bad to the bone. The senko/toad is great, the crankbait rod casts a mile, and the spinnerbait rod did well. Overall i give them an 7 1/2-8 stars.

Re: Skeet Reese rods
Do you have problems pulling fish out of the thick stufff with that topwater? To me it just doesn't look like it has the backbone for it.
