Colts not playing to win part II
If anybody saw what happen to the Patriots Wes Welker yesterday, now you know why teams sit their stars in meaningless games. Torn ACL and MCL. They lost a top reciever who is key to their passing game in a game that meant didlly squat.
Early in last nights game I was screaming at Marvin Lewis to get Chad out of the frickin ball game.
Re: Colts not playing to win part II
Tim I somewhat agree but man the Bengals are hurting right now. I think Lewis was trying to get something positive out of that game, it hurt them mentally I'm sure. There offense torched Cincy's D like no game this year. That one I'm afraid set the stage for a huge let down. I've got mixed emotions about sitting players or not bringing your A game, I don't know................
Re: Colts not playing to win part II
I didn't watch the game but yeah thats one side of the discussion. The other is they don't win when they think they can just because they play all the stars and the sandbagging was a wasted plan.
Way back when the 49'ers, (bradshaw era) Steelers and so on where top dog teams...was this the tactic? I'm asking cause I don't have a good remembry...:p

No, very very little of this existed back in the day, it was a matter of pride. Guys went out to win every game no matter what, if somebody got hurt so be it. Now if they were blasting somebody they would sit the stars down as to not get them hurt that's only smart. But I don't ever remember seeing this stuff they are doing now, I kinda don't like it even though it does have some merit I suppose if you look at it closely. They trying to get the big prize, without your key players it diminishes your chance greatly.
Re: Colts not playing to win part II
I didn't remember them doing that either. When I think back the image of Jack Lambert playing with no front teeth and blood on his arms comes to mind.
Re: Colts not playing to win part II
I'll take Bellichick's 3 rings going balls out every game to the Colts one ring any day of the week.

Get-R-Done, I loved that guy he was an animal. You can't even hit another guy in Pro football anymore. The players of old would open an entire can of Whoop Arse on these sheltered players of today. I can look back and still see Quarterbacks running for their very lives....litterally, lol.
Remember Ronnie Lott, defensive back/ Rover. He brought the lumber and would leave players on the field thinking they were hit by a truck, Ah Ah, real football.

"Momentum? We don't need no stinking MOMENTUM!!"

Let me say that i not only dislike the Patriots but i despise them. With that out of the way i'd wish that injury on noone.
The game meant didlly squat, the difference between 3rd seed and 4th seed and the difference in SD or Indy. I will give the cheater credit, he doesn't go through life scared or what if what if.
As for Indy that was a moronic decision by a moronic team president and one and done is likely and will probably be delivered by the Jets, the team they forfeited to.

They Patriots had already wrapped up the third seed. The 1-4 in the AFC were set, so there was no way the Colts, Chargers, Patriots or Bengals could improve themselves.

If Bengals had of won they would have been 3rd seed, then they would have played the Texans and the Patriots still would have played the Ravens. Tony Dungy even went as far as saying that the cheater threw the game cause he would rather play Indy instead of SD.
When the Patriots lost they were 4th seed until Bengals lost.

Who was the dude that played with the broken appendage was that Jack Youngblood or was it Lambert? Thought he played for the LA rams but I was a wee lad at the time.
Here's my dream scenario. Jets beat Bengals. Patriots beat Ravens. Jets then go to Indy and beat them again. That would be sweet justice to beat two teams that could have eliminated them yet chose to rest the starters. I hate the Jets. I wouldn't care what happened the rest of the way. The Cowboys could win for all I care!!!
