Striper Fishing
Heading down this to do some striper fishing at Cumberland. Putting in at Jamestown. Wondering what creeks are on. Will look at Greasey, Beaver, and Otter first off. Usually this time of year they are in the backs of creeks and wanted to know if anyone has had success. Really appreciate any help.......

Re: Striper Fishing
Word has it that it's very very slow right now. Even some ice in the backs of some of the creeks. Had a guy tell me there is more ice visible on the lake right now than they have seen down there in alot of years. This cold snap has been brutal.
All here say here brother so take it with a grain of salt as I haven't been on the lake since November, but this is what I've been hearing from my Peeps.

Re: Striper Fishing
I have not been fishing my self since the first day of the snap Jan 1. I have not heard of anyone catching any but you may get lucky they should feed pretty heavy when they start to feed. It is much nicer here today and 40 tomorrow, so if they are not biting they should be any day. There is ice in the back of the creeks for sure but they should not be all the way back in the creeks more midway so you should be OK.

Re: Striper Fishing
I've been on the lake and fishing the fly for almost 2 weeks.
Venured back in the creeks today looking for stripers and found 100yds or more of ice at sunrise. Air temps so cold my baitcaster frozen up when the water hit it. Saw no striper activity. I did hear of activity in Beaver Creek with two big fish caught on swim baits.
The bite on the fly has slowed considerably (fishing points and ledges) since the water temp dropped below 45 degrees though I did get 1 18"er today just before dark. The sun is suppose to be out the next few days so come very early or very late.

Re: Striper Fishing
I got 2 on Thursday in Beaver. We had to leave as the snow started flying and were afraid we wouldn't get the boat home. Good thing we left when we did. LOL....man was it cold!

Re: Striper Fishing
try some live bait bottom fishing on the clay banks on channel bends. Thats what I heard for this time of year once.

Re: Striper Fishing
Cumberland,
Were they surface feeding at all? Or did you find em with electronics?

Re: Striper Fishing
Dave,
Yep, it was a smallie. I got another 20" today and 16" Spot.
I went to 14' leader and the bite dramatically IMPROVED but it's crazy trying to boat a fish with a leader that long! I'm grabbing the line before I even see the fish.
The fish seemed very aggressive! I'm guessing tomorrow will be a great day! Because of the lack of clouds I started fishing around 2 when I could get some shady banks. It's suppose to be sunny again tomorrow so I'm gonna go at first light for a couple of hours and then again in the afternoon til dark.
Still no sign of stripers

Re: Striper Fishing
Fish were caught 4 to 5 feet deep over less than 30ft of water.
