Re: Stroking for Smallmouths
I have caught some smallmouth doing it, but mostly largemouth. I seem to catch more smallmouth dragging a jig on deeper ledges.
Re: Stroking for Smallmouths
Ike had a great mini segment on stroking a jig last year but was catching Largemouth doing it. I have never seen anyone do it for smallies. I always bounce or drag em for them but I am far from a smallie expert.
Re: Stroking for Smallmouths
I've never caught them during the summer stroking a jig and have never tried frankly but I fish Dale Hollow in the fall and that's a great way to catch them out of the grass there. We're usually fishing 20-25ft there so I don't see why it wouldn't work up where you are at those same depths.
Re: Stroking for Smallmouths
Yes it works for Smallies.
Hi folks.
I live in the north country where smallmouth tend to rule, but in the summer when the smallies go deep (18 to 25 feet), I have to believe that stroking a jig like you do on Kentucky Lake "has" to work!
So my question is this ... do any of you stroking experts ever catch smallies stroking your jigs in the summer? And if you do, do you catch smallmouth more than just on a rare occasion?
More importantly, I guess, if you fished a lake that had predominantly smallmouth in it, would you try stroking a jig for them in the heat of the summer?
I'd really appreciate your comments.
Thank a bunch!
Stoking? What is stroking.....just a question from a NUB  I know "draging" and "hoping", but STROKING?

Re: Stroking for Smallmouths
Thanks folks, that gives me the encouragement to at least give it a try.
dpage70 - when you are fishing in the fall and you say you catch them in the weeds ... are they smallmouth?
If they are smallies - mind if I ask what you're using? A football jig? Soft dressing?
Thanks folks
