Geo, if you think it is a joke now (I know what you mean), just wait a coulple more years when all the hidden taxes, er sorry "enhancement fees" start to kick in. The enhancement fees scheduled for JUST next year are on: Homesales, Medicare increases, counting employer provided heath insurance as income for the individual, and fees on Investment Income.

I can't wait till all the people who voted this Bafoon in office start really feeling all his hope and change in their pocket book.
''Yea, Obama Goins to Gets me my check'', yea he's going to get your check alright, lol.
The CBO stated several times that the "fuzzy math" of this administration was lowballed but they shoved it down our throats anyway. These crooks have set a precedence that will take an "act of Congress" (pun intended) to remove which means it never will.
They have set us up for another social program that will sukk our tax dollars dry. It's so simple....if you give anything away for free or at a much discounted cost people will abuse it. This has to be one of the worst acts or ignorance ever imposed upon the american people.

This wasn't ignorance, it was genius! It is the perfect way to move toward socialism.

I hear ya Mark...only problem is, about the time the idiots who voted Bozo in for POTUS start feeling the pain in their pocketbooks, you and I will be right there with them, feeling it too.
C'mon 2012...and ultimately, COME ON AMERICA, let's get rid of our black eye!!

It has started....the tanning bed tax was originated to help fund the Healthcare Reform. They expect millions from that one. Get ready because if they can link anything to healthcare issues it will be taxed.
What a mess they have put us in....

I don't smoke and had no idea how much a carton of cigarettes cost. My husband does smoke and this morning I saw a receipt for a carton......Holy sheet! They cost $42.58 per carton. That is $170.32/month or $2,214.16/year. I asked him if he had ever considered that $42.58 is half the price of groceries for a week. It is a proven fact that cigarettes cause a lot of healthcare issues and I believe there will be more "Sin Tax" worked into the Healthcare plan. jmo

If it were actually going to work, I might agree with that, but as Geo said, it's so under-funded it's going to fall flat on its face. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that will serve as a real-life demonstration of how universal healthcare won't work in America.
When it comes to healthcare, people want three things: They want high quality care, they want it to be easily accessible, and they want it to be affordable. Problem is, in real life you have to pick two. If you look at countries that have universal healthcare, meaning it's affordable (free) for everybody, they've made sacrifices, generally in accessibility, sometimes in qualtiy. You'll be able to get your hip replaced for free, usually by a good surgeon, but you may have to wait a while. In America, we're used to high-quality care that is readily accessible, and getting the American public to sacrifice either of those to make it affordable for everybody just ain't gonna happen. Look at the polls from before the healthcare bill was passed; 80% of Americans polled were happy with their healthcare the way it was.
Roadtoad, I fully agree with you except for one small thing, Obama, Reed and Polosi, and thier Liberal henchmen DIDN'T ASK WHAT THE 80 PERCENT OF AMERICANS WANT, they are shoving socialism, and Universal Healthcare, down our throats whether we like it or not. And, as I said above, we are paying for it with all of the enhancement fees being placed on all aspects our our livelyhood. Obamacare is just the start, you watch what happens when they get done with Cap and Trade!!

That's cheap compared to Indiana!

The SAD fact of the matter is this...............THAT "smoking" tax is supposed to help pay for health care.
So lets run some numbers........
About 45 million people smoke......
With 45 million smokers, and a carton costing 42 bucks a piece.....lets assume 1/2 of that is tax........so 21 bucks a carton is tax.
I don't know what most people smoke a day........but say you go through a carton a week........
$21.00 x 52 = $1092 a year.
$1092 x 42,000,000 = hm.........calculating.............45 BILLION dollars.
Tell me this........where the HELL is THAT MONEY.
