Elkhorn Creek?
Monday morning Dad and I put at the stamping ground ( i think that whats it called) below the dam. Caught probably 20+ bass nothing keeper size, but a good day. The question i have is how far can you go if you put a boat in below the dam? Is there another dam that way?

Re: Elkhorn Creek?
Was the ramp great crossings? If it was you could go down about two miles then you would hit Robinson dam. But up creek you can go a good way just gets shallow. Ky_bassman knows elkhorn good I will give him a shout and get him to reply with good info

Re: Elkhorn Creek?
Yeah thats what its called, i hadn't been there in about 2 years. We went by two little feeder creek on the left side of the bank and turned a corner. Around that corner it looked like it went on forever and got even wider. With just a trolling motor we didn't want to venture any farther.

Re: Elkhorn Creek?
Been wanting to put in around the frankfort area. The only place i know of having an access point is canoe ky. Don't know if a 10 ft jon boat could handle to water in that area or not.

Re: Elkhorn Creek?
If you know the Switzer area the covered bridge is very good fishing but there are no ramps

Re: Elkhorn Creek?
Once you go below Robinson dam it is a long way to another public access area. Switzer covered bridge would be your next stop. Then you would go down to the forks of elkhorn. I have never tried it but my buddie told me that area between switzer and the forks has some good fish in it. He has floated it once.

Once you get below Robinson Dam the next takeout is on Galloway Rd....(5.5 miles give or take). After that its 15+ miles by creek to the forks. Long way to float and fish with limited access to the public.
Between Switzer and the Forks has some pretty good fishing. It's a long float also. It may take you a time or two the find the good spots....
One thing about doing floats is the dedication to good water/vs/bad...

Man there is a reason I didnt mention Galloway. You know because of all the big smallmouth. Your right forgot about that one. That would be a long trip.

Re: Elkhorn Creek?
You can wade from Great Crossings down stream to Cane Run Creek. Right after Cane run the creek starts getting deeper. I am 6'4' and it gets up to my shoulders. But it is worth wading. Above the Dam you can go about a mile before it gets to shallow for a boat. Also has largemouth and smallmouth. Nothing big, but still alot of fun.
Hope this helps. I wade the area about once or twice a week.
