I recently posted on here inquiring about places to fish near Western Kentucky University, as I am now a freshman here. I got lots of replies with different creeks and the like. I'm not really sure of what to use. I love to use texas rigged plastics, simple and effective. I'm assuming that tactic will work with smaller baits like craws and small 4" lizards. Am I right? I'm also thinking about small floating jerk baits. Good? Bad? Lets help a poor college student out a little more ;)
Fished with my son while he was at WKU mainly using shallow running crankbaits and "if all else fails tie on a rooster tail" seeemed to work well for us. We would kayak the feeder creeks of the barren below dam when they were dumping the lake. Seems a lot of fish came in to creeks to avoid the current flow. Shallow running #5 shad raps and 1/8 oz. rooster tails were our most productive.
I would say a Yum Wooly Bug or Reaction Inovations smallie beaver in green pumpkin T-rigged would be a safe bet... creek fish love craws... especially if the creek has a lot of rocky spots...
I love pitchin' and flippin' tubes in creeks! Watermelon with black or gold fleck works well this time of year. Go to an orange color as fall comes along.
My sons and i wade Elkhorn Creek alot. We throw a bunch of 3" and 4" grubs, sliders, lizards, tiny brush hawgs, etc. Small Rebel craws work well at times. The small Pop-R is one of my favorites (shave the bottom of the lip down just a little below the line tie eye). Green pumpkin or watermelon are good colors, sometimes cotton candy works as well. We tend to use longer 6.5' light action rods with 6 lb test to make longer casts as fish spook easily in clear water. Good luck in school and good fishin!!!

You cannot beat a Rebel Teeny Wee craw crankbait. I like the Texas Red color. Hard to find. Dark brown top, red-orange bottom. This is the smallest model. i have caught more creekfish on this bait than any other. Second choice, small grub on jighead, natural colors with some chartreuse. Small rattletraps are good too, small 1/8 oz buzzbait, tiny torpedo and small jerkbaits too in shad colors.

A number 5 or 7 orginal floating rap black/silver. Will catch any thing in a creek.

I kind of want to see how I can manage my time and class work before I commit to the team. I may choose to do so later on, though.
Try a 4" senko in Green Pumpkin with black flake-the samllies and rock bass will devour it. When the flow is low like now, any small top water will get noticed and whacked, usually without ever moving it!
