Fishing on TV
Just sat here watching one of the fishing programs on television while working on a sports program and it got me to thinking:
Who's your favourite fisherman on television and why?
Do you think you actually learn from watching these programs or are they just a day's fishing for these guys?
Comments?

Re: Fishing on TV
I like watching City Limits Fishing with Mike Iaconelli. It makes me want to put my boat in at Cox Park on the Ohio River in Louisville and throw a shakey head under the secong street bridge. I doubt if I would pull out a 4 pound small mouth like he always does though.

Re: Fishing on TV
I like the show Getting School'd w/ JP DeRose. I feel I actually learn from him. I also like Strike King Pro Journal because i actually feel like i learn something. I do not like shows like Bill Dance, InFisherman, or any other show that pushes a brand or product instead of a technique or presentation...
And teh show Hookin Up is awesome... and we all know why... it isnt the fish.

+1 on City Limits Fishing. I would like to see him come down here and do that. I know it can be done, but it is not an easy task. The river is tough in Louisville. I have caught some decent fish up in Westport, maybe a couple in Harrods Creek, but not much size.

Re: Fishing on TV
I talked to Ike at the Kentucky Lake tournament in June and afterwards I thought "why didn't I mention him fishing the river in Louisville!" I like Strike King Pro Journal.

Re: Fishing on TV
I like all the mentioned shows....heck...I like any show about fishing! I do enjoy Kentucky Afield for its locality. Nice to see people fishing in familiar waters IMO.

Re: Fishing on TV
What channel does the Ike show come on? I haven't heard of it.
I'll tell you the one guy/show that I HATE to watch...Beat Charley Moore. I can't stand that idiot.

Re: Fishing on TV
Oh how I miss fishing shows...
Havent had cable since feb., travelling with work and staying in rv parks without it.
Ive always liked every bass show. I ddont watch them for anything more than entertainment. Nothing like laying on the couch watching Bill Dance after a big sunday dinner. Highlight of the week... unless its a catfish or gar show.

City Limits Fishing with Mike Iaconelli is on the Versus Channel. It was actually that show that I was watching that prompted me to start this thread.
I, too, am not a big fan of those shows that push products but of all those guys I like Roland Martin the best. Jimmy Houston is OK while Bill Dance is just downright frustrating. Dance will say something like "You should know how bass think" then leave the comment dangling, no follow up on what the hell he means!
Just my twopennorth!

Re: Fishing on TV
I like a lot of fishing shows and do not mean to hijack this thread, but what I do not like is someone on TV fishing what appears to be a large private lake and trying to entertain people by catching fish that have no fishing pressure. Let them go to the lakes and rivers that the rest of us fish and entertain us by catching fish there. Just my opinion. Thanks
