Lake Monroe
I live in Louisville and was wondering if the bass fishing was any good at Lake Monroe. I heard that there was lily pads but I haven't heard how good the fishing is. Are there many lunkers in this lake? What is a good bait for this lake?
I'm thinking about trying it out. Any comments would be helpful in making my decision.Thanks.

Re: Lake Monroe
They are not many if any pads left in Monroe. It can be a very phenominal fishery but can also be a day of nothing. Pound for pound there are bigger bass in Monroe than any other body of water in the state of Indiana. right now you would have to fish the main lake area due to boht parts of the upper river arms being closed for waterfowl season.

Re: Lake Monroe
Shane is right on...Monroe can be awesome or humbling. With this warm trend i would fish shallow bays and points with wood or riprap. Wind blown banks are great this time of year too. I know some guys have been catching fish on deeper laydowns with soft plastics and cranks. If I was going this weekend i would throw lipless cranks in 2-8 ft of water and deeper cranks from 8-12 ft. Jigs in standing timber could be effective if its bright and sunny. You've gotta find the bait....then you'll find the bass and stripers! Good luck.....let us know how you do.

Re: Lake Monroe
Does lake Monroe require a DNR sticker ?

Re: Lake Monroe
State tags and yes a launch permit. The only part of the lake that is closed this time of year is the creeks......way up north and middle fork. Some of the slow side is still open. Saddle Creek is an example....that can be great this time of year.

Re: Lake Monroe
Thanks for the comments fellas.
I was planning on going this weekend but just committed to a tournament on Saturday. Hopefully I can get up there before the water gets below 50º. Sounds like it would be a spring time lake anyways. I will let you know. Thanks again to everyone.

Re: Lake Monroe
Too late for that.....water temps on the main lake were 48-50 last weekend. 15 lbs. and change won a tx last Sat. on Monroe though.

Monroe Lake = Monothingroe lake

Re: Lake Monroe
Wow, the temps are dropping quick on that side of the river...
Seems like some mixed signals. It makes even more curious. I will definitely be checking it out. It sounds like Taylorsville lake, some love it and some hate it... I love it.

Re: Lake Monroe
I love Monroe too....it has some real TOADS.....it can be very tricky though. One day you can slay em' and the next nothing. Thats why its called fishing....not catching I guess! Right now you can catch them deep and shallow...depends a lot on the sub/cloud/wind factor I believe. Find the shad!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Lake Monroe
It WILL humble you! I've heard that KVD gave up while trying to film a show there. He got so frustrated and just left.
