Anyone else ever have a problem with the depth finder not keeping up with the boat speed? I only have a 40HP motor, this limits my max speed to about 25-30 mph. However, once I get above 15 - 20 the depth finder no longer registers. I have to slow down tremendously just to get a depth reading. I was wondering what everyone else does if/when this happens and if there is any advice out there. It is a Lowrance Mark X Pro.
your transducer is getting turbulence or is not in the water when on plane. look up the setup details on your unit. it should explain all that.
Most have a way to increase readout speed-checkout options on it or check owners manual
I agree with Embrey,sounds like transducer is not in water when on plane,too high on boat...Check owners manual for proper setup...JMO Good luck!!
if its a glass boat, get a thru hull unit and it will read at any speed.
Sorry I forgot to mention it's an aluminum tracker with a step hull. Thinking about mounting it on the step close to the drain. That's the only way I can keep it in the water. Of course that means could ding it up though. However, it would be really nice to get readings at speed.
I have a fiberglass and a thru hull trandsducer and mine won't read at speed either....It'll keep up until I hit about 50 and then it starts blinking at me....

hmm...think maybe you got it too far forward and when youre over 50 its out of the water where you have it mounted?
I'm having the same issues with my Mark 5 DSI. I just mounted it over the winter. I am thinking of shooting thru the hull but I'm not sure if this is possible with dsi. Anyone know for sure? I didn't see anything about it in the owners manual. Worst case I am going to hook my old Eagle unit back up as well and use it for depth while running at speed.

I have the Tracker 195 with the step hull, and have the SAME ISSUE........I'm seriously thinking of putting the xducer down lower.
I also found this site.........and SERIOUSLY thought about a through hull transducer for my aluminum boat.

doesnt matter what kind of boat geo...if its not in the right spot and angle,it wont read.lol
I have a Fisher pro hawk which is the same thing as a tracker V-18 with the stepped hull, I mounted my transducer just to the right of motor mount flush with the top edge of the step. I angled the trans slightly forward and it has no problems picking up, but I'm topping out speed wise at 42 mph. It does throw a little rooster tail up.
