are people animals?
I wonder sometimes if people are more animal than human, from some of the things that I see people do and say. sometimes they just blow my mind. I was listening to the radio today, and the program was a call in swap shop radio show. and this guy called in and said his wife had a small house dog that had been part of their family for 8 years. and she wanted to sell it. after 8 years of living and being part of that family, that little dog wouldn't turn it's back on her for the world. it will be heart broken, not to be with it's family. I have a small 13 pound dog, that goes fishing with me, in fact it goes almost everywhere I do and we love each other, we are family. I couldn't put a price on my little 4 legged friend, anymore than I could one of my kids. little dogs know what love is, my wife said she can tell my dog that I'm coming home after work.as much as 45 minutes early, and she will go tothe front door and sit and wait for me. that has been on my mind all day.

Re: are people animals?
Have had our little dog for 8 years....I'd go to the gravel with anybody over him. He's like my child and I DREAD the day he is gone.

Re: are people animals?
Man I'm a huge dog lover. Raised with them and have had many that I called my own. I cant imagine giving one up...just not in my DNA.
They are masters at reading your movements, attitude and emotions and that can make you have a special bond with them. I have been fortunate to have two black labs that are fantastic companions, Ben has been gone for 6 years now but now Maxx is here and an awesome sidekick. He is a 72# lab that seems to know what I'm up to all the time. He goes to work with me, fishing when it's cool, walking, swimming, running and hiking. He is with me more than my daughter or girlfriend and it's such a cool bond.

Re: are people animals?
To repay the loyalty that you get from a dog by selling them down the road like that is unimaginable. But you know, if they're willing to do that, I have to wonder how well that dog is getting treated in the first place. It might be the best thing that ever happened to it.

Karma will CATCH up with them............

Re: are people animals?
It takes a cold, hard heart to do that to the only creature on earth that will forgive and keep on loving you, no matter what you do. They don't care about the past.
I have 2 Shianese pups - Spanky and Mollie - brother and sister partners in crime, that are inseperable. I can't imagine us being without those babies. Every time I move the pet carrier, they hop in and sit down thinking we are going to visit Daddy.

Re: are people animals?
Apparently I'm the only who thinks the way people treat these little dogs better than they do other people is completely stupid...People honestly value the life of their pet more than they do the life of another human...It's absolutely obsurd the life that some of these animals are given

No, you are not alone! If people treated others as well as they do some animals the world would be a far better place than it is!

Yeah, I would love to have someone walk behind me and pick up my poop.

I call her my little friend. but I don't treat her any better than the people that I love. I try to treat people that I don't know nice. but I know she is a animal and as much as she means to me, I would never value her life over another human being. and I find it hard to belive anyone would care that much for their pet.

Re: are people animals?
I guess that I have a strange attitude toward life. It is my belief, that at a minimun, you should try to leave this world in better shape when you die than when you were born. I live in a rural area where there are lots of small farms. In the past when there was a death in someones family or an illness, I have helped to cut and put their tobacco in the barn, worked in their hay, cut their grass, cut wood for them, or whatever was needed to help out. The red cross has collected more than 10 gallons of my blood over the years. I have been known to provide older folks transportation to doctor appointments, carry someone who is unable to drive to see their spouse/family in the hospital, and help them out some financially if times were rough and I was able. I have been a volunteer fireman for more than 20 years now, donating my time freely, made fire runs at all hours of the day and night to try to help save their homes and automobiles, and assist on wrecks and medical runs. This is my history believe what you will. But I value the life of my dog much more than the lives of some of the people who live in my community. They are the ones who you hear about on the radio and read about each week in the police reports in the newspaper. The spend their lives making meth, stealing from their neighbors, vandalizing other peoples property, abusing children, beating their spouse, in some cases committing armed robbery, and having children they cannot afford to raise. Those people are takers, they take much more from society than they give back. Their lives provide no positive benefits to anyone and the air they breathe and the food they eat is completely wasted. I have somewhat jokingly told some of my neighbors that every community really needs a community backhoe. When you find these people doing illegal acts, use the backhoe. My wife and I raised 2 productive children, both are married, have jobs, one is active duty military, and both would willingly help their friends and neighbors in any way. But there are some people out there that the world, and the responsible people in it, would be much better off without. They are less than worthless. My dog is my friend, provides companionship and provides warning when someone comes around. She provides much more value to the world than those people I was talking about. Just my opinion.

Re: are people animals?
It takes all kinds...and every one who has posted here has made a good point. Some folks think dog's are here to serve them, to make them money, etc...there are so called puppy mills where new litters are born and forced to live in unspicable conditions, bitches forced to produce litter after litter. There are folks who want nothing more than to have an angry animal on a chain ready to eat the hide off his opponent in his next match while the owner stands by hoping to collect cash made on bets.
On the flip side there are some people who DO treat their dog's better than they treat some people in society. I think this type of person has social issues as much as the types of people I just wrote about in the paragraph above.
In my opinion...I don't see how anyone could sell a dog unless, UNLESS...The owner was deployed over seas, become stricken with bad health or simply cannot afford to continue supporting and caring for the dog...sometimes when people sell they're doing it in the best interest of the dog. All sells aren't due to selfishness. Dog's need to be included in the family, they need jobs to do, they need to feel wanted and needed, they want to be productive just like people do. In my opinion if you own a dog and only feed and water him and do nothing else then you are missing out one what owning a dog is all about. They'll be a loyal partner and team mate if you work with them.
